GOOD MORNING, WONDERFUL, HANDSOME, wise, strong, ever-energetic and sexy husbands.

Today’s devotional piece is specifically for you and, of course, your beautiful and delectable wives need to also read it. It’s important that both of you be on the same page.

According to our anchor scripture, your first and foremost duty in Marriage is to love your wives just the way Christ
loved the Church(Ephesians 5:25).

Your question may be, “How did Christ love the Church?” Answer:

1) HE LOVED HER WHEN SHE was most unworthy of His love (Rom.5:8).

This means you don’t need to love your wife on the basis of her merits, performances and deserts.

Don’t wait until she’s submissive, pleases you, makes you happy, obeys your voice, etc, before you go out of your way to do something noteworthy and remarkable that would bless and change her life!

None of us merits Christ’s love. He just loves us. So, love your wife likewise!

2) HE LOVED THE CHURCH WHILE IT WAS still in the world and was dead and decayed in her sins and trespasses. Yes, when she was filthy, foul, smelly, stinking and repulsive(Ephesians 2:1b)

Similarly, love your wife inspite of her carnality; and whatever negative, annoying or embarrassing things there may be in her life.

As you love her with Christlike love and pray for her, those things will GRADUALLY drop off from her life, one after the other; until the day comes when you’d look at her and find that you have a new, different and saintly woman in your life! Same woman but a new wife because of the transforming power of Love.

3) HE LOVED HER TO THE EXTENT OF HANGING NAKED on the cross in shame for her redemption (Hebrews 12:2).

This is deep.
Yet God demands that husbands go to this extent in loving their wives.

4) HE LOVED HER TO THE EXTENT OF ENDURING a most agonizing death for her sake.(Hebrews 12:2)

This is also another deep level of Love that husbands are required to demonstrate in marriage. Be willing to endure whatever it will cost you for the life of your woman to be bettered.

From the demands of the command in our anchor scripture, we can see that loving your wife goes well beyond romantic activities and sexual intimacy, even though these are also very much important.

Loving her entails making sacrifices for her sake, such as:

🍊Investing a large chunk of your income in sponsoring her in a crucial educational programme of her dreams. Or setting up a good business for her; if that’s her desire.

🍊The willingness to peacefully forfeit dinner and go to bed hungry when for some reasons she’s too tired to cook. Or taking her place and going into the kitchen to cook a simple meal for the family for the evening.

🍊Lovingly forfeiting sex when she’s apparently too tired to serve on the bed of love.

🍊Taking her out to that fun place she’s been singing into your ears for a romantic weekend and spoiling her silly; even though it may not be convenient for your wallet!

🍊Other things that will make her a better, happier and sweeter woman.
