IT SHOULD INTEREST YOU TO KNOW THAT AFTER the death of the Apostles and the early church fathers, great darkness descended on the Church and the Truth of Scripture was replaced with human doctrines and traditions. That period has come to be known as THE DARK AGES.
During the Dark Ages, the Church promoted a view that Sexual Intercourse in marriage was a pollutant and an enemy of the soul!
Sex was forbidden on Sundays because it was the Lord’s Day.
On Thursdays and Fridays, Sex was prohibited because those were the days of preparation for the Lord’s Day.
During the entire season of LENT lasting 47-62 days, Married Couples were commanded to abstain from Sex.
35 days before Christmas, Sex was forbidden. Oh, are you asking me why? You’ve forgotten that, that’s the time to prepare for “the birth” of the Saviour?(As if our Lord had not since come to Earth and ascended into Heaven)
During the Feast of Pentecost lasting 40-60 days Sex was prohibited for married couples also.
Sex was prohibited on all Saint’s Days.
And even on the few days left, couples were under instructions to have Sex in only one position: the missionary position. Married people were taught that Sexual intimacy in any other position other than the missionary posture, led to the conception of deformed babies!!! You don’t have to be a Nurse or a Doctor to know that this was a blatant lie, do you?
Well, the hapless couples of that era believed everything they were taught and as result were deprived of very many of the comforts and delights that were theirs in Marriage; all because of ignorance and lack of knowledge of God’s Word on Marriage.
As our first anchor Scripture says, ignorance leads to DESTRUCTION. And according to our second anchor Scripture, lack of knowledge leads to CAPTIVITY, STARVATION AND THIRST. Can you see that these are the things that befell couples in those dark ages? Marriage became a place of sexual frustration and endurance, because Spouses saw each other’s body but were restricted from freely enjoying each other by man-made religious laws. False religion made nonsense of the One Flesh bond of couples. But Marriage was given to be enjoyed and not to be endured.
Dear married Reader, what kind of marriage do you have? Is yours a Dark Ages Marriage or a Biblical Marriage full of light and freedom from the truths of the Word of God?
Even now, there are many marriages that are still in the Dark Ages. Yes, up till this moment some Christian leaders and laymen are operating Dark Ages Marriage. For the larger part of the year, they give no amorous attention to their Wife. She watches other members of their Church cruise about with their wives but she rarely shares sweet moments of embracing, kissing, petting, necking, fondling, caressing, smooching and affection with her husband because almost always he frowns and tells her, “Please take your hands off me. I’ve told you times without number that I’m sold out for Christ.” And what does the poor wife do? She withdraws into her emotional shell, cursing the day she agreed to marry the overzealous and fanatical Brother whom everybody in the campus fellowship thought would be a sound Preacher and loving husband. But Alas, he’s a medieval and dark ages man whose zeal is empty of knowledge.
Dearly beloved brothers and sisters, God has not called us to be religious nuts and idiots, who take leave of their senses. The Scripture commands very clearly:
“3 Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband.
4 The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife.
5 Defraud ye not one the other, except it be with consent for a time, that ye may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again, that Satan tempt you not for your incontinency” (1 Corinthians 7:3-5)
When a husband or Wife uses the service of God as excuse to disobey the divine commands above , they’re living in the Dark Ages. Not only that, they’re transgressing and sinning.
In 1517, God began the Reformation of His Church through Martin Luther, a German Catholic Monk.
With the Reformation, the Light of Scripture began to dispell the darkness of the Dark Ages, liberating couples from the shackles of false religious rules that frustrated marriages.
Today, you have no excuse to operate a Dark Ages Marriage. Let the Light of Scripture fill your Marriage and control it; and yours will be a matrimony that’s a sweet colony of Heaven on Earth.
