In yesterday’s devotional piece, I shared a recent lesson I learned from my kitchen and it’s this: No Fire Is Small.

Similarly, there is no small husband, small wife, small marriage or even a small home.

That seemingly small marriage of yours is the foundation of your home. And without your seemingly small spouse, you’ll have no marriage and home of your own.

Take a few seconds to reread our anchor scripture above before we continue.

Reading those two verses, you’ll note four things. Those were things Adam and Eve never foresaw or never imagined would happen to them. The only consequence of disobedience they knew was that they would “die” if they ate the forbidden fruit. But alas, the consequences were much more! Let’s look at them.

1)A SUDDEN AND CHEERLESS SEND FORTH
Suddenly, their tenancy in the best home in the world was over and they were to leave without a farewell. Why? Because it was an eviction, a sack and a disgraceful dismissal and not a retirement! There were no gratuities and pensions. God owed them nothing. It was an ignominious departure and a shameful exit from the grand earthly paradise where they should have lived forever.

And that’s what happens when you lose your marriage. It goes beyond no more living with your spouse. Other dark and minute consequences creep out to haunt you!

2) THEY WERE TO START LIFE IN THE WILD
Mr and Mrs Adam inherited a God made estate: a dreamlike garden of extremely fascinating beauty and grandeur. It was a unique world in which there was no lack.

But suddenly, their disobedience brought them into a wild bush as their new abode. They were completely unprepared. They had no farm implements or any thing. They had to walk distances daily in search of fruits and water for their sustainance!

3)THEY SAW DIVINE HOSTILITY REPLACE THE WARMTH OF A FATHER’S LOVE
All their lives as they stayed in obedience, Adam and Eve saw only the love, the lavish generosity and goodness of God. He came to them in the evenings for sweet fellowship.
But Sin cast them out of Grace and Favour and they now saw the severity of God.
God DROVE THEM OUT! They never imagined it would come to this but it did because the sweet fellowship was over.

Prize your fellowship with your seemingly small Spouse. It’s a treasure money can’t buy!

4) A SQUAD OF CHERUBIMS AND A FLAMING SWORD BARRED THEM FROM EDEN FOREVER
So serious was their expulsion that God set Cherubims and a flaming sword to guard the entrance to the glorious Garden. A Cherub was enough for the job but God set a squad and the flaming sword. It showed that their loss of their palatial home was final anf permanent.

For Adam and Eve, it was like a horrifying nightmare. Sadly, it was real, very real. They suddenly lost EVERYTHING just for eating a few fruits that probably had no exceptional taste.

If you read yesterday’s devotional, you saw that the woman of 96 lost her husband, her marriage and her home because she secretly reconnected with her Ex in the seventeenth year of her marriage. She looked back at “Sodom” like Lot’s wife and became a pillar of salt sixty years later. She lost her home in the sunset years of her life. Where did she go? To an old people’s home? Apparently, she didn’t have living parents anymore. Or to one her children? We can’t tell.

Sir/Ma, what forbidden things are you toying with? What divine matrimonial laws are you secretly breaking and thinking that there’ll be no consequences?
