AS THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL arrived the borders of the great city of Jericho, it’s government knowing from the reports they’d heard for years about the children of Israel, moved swiftly and shut all the entrance gates of the great City.
According to scholars, the walls of Jericho were so wide six horses could race on them at the same time during tournaments! So, this was a city that took security matters very seriously for the sake of it’s citizens.
But somehow, someone among the Gate keepers carelessly opened the gate that was TIGHTLY SHUT. And the two Israelite spies, who very probably had been hiding somewhere in the bushes opposite the gate and watching for an opportunity to enter the great city found one in the error of the Gate keepers
and sneaked in! And that’s how the City fell.
Just how long the gates were carelessly left open we’re not told but considering the dread and dangers that hung over the City because of the children of Israel, it’s likely the gates didn’t stay open for long. But as usual, the enemy doesn’t seek for something big or long to use in destroying his targets. Something seemingly insignificant is enough.
Dear Spouses, what it takes for your beautiful union to come crashing down is just one little error. Could be a quarrel, an outburst of anger in the wrong place, a seemingly “innocent” conversation with your Ex on phone, an unwise and unnecessary hug with your old school mate of the opposite sex, etc.
A lady whose husband trusted and sent ahead of him to an affluent foreign country soon became rich in the new land. So rich was she that by the time her husband left his job in Africa and joined her, there was a big income gap between them and she allowed Pride to get into head. She forgot that her husband was the architect of her upliftment because she never thought of travelling out let alone living abroad any day until her husband did and even sent her ahead of himself to the beautiful country. Long story short, her Pride hardened her heart and she shut him out from her affection; leading to anger in her husband. The outcome? Blinded by rage he shot her dead and is today in jail awaiting the hangman’s noose; or at best, a Life sentence. A very ugly way for a beautiful Marriage to end isn’t it?
Always remember God’s Word that says: NEITHER GIVE PLACE TO YOU DEVIL. Satan isn’t asking for a big space. Just a foothold. Please, don’t give it to him!
