KEEP LOVING!

Scripture:
‘NOW BEFORE THE FEAST OF THE PASSOVER, WHEN JESUS KNEW THAT HIS HOUR WAS COME THAT HE SHOULD DEPART OUT OF THIS WORLD UNTO THE FATHER, HAVING LOVED HIS OWN WHICH WERE IN THE WORLD, HE LOVED THEM UNTO THE END.’
(JOHN 13:1)

🌍A few days ago, I read the story of an ex-soldier who was convicted for armed robbery soon after the Nigerian civil war ended.

🌍In those days, anyone found guilty of armed robbery was publicly executed. This ex-soldier maintained that he didn’t commit the crime and the people in his community also said he didn’t commit the crime. But “the law” stood it’s ground that he was guilty.

🌍On the day of his execution, as he was tied to the stake to be shot, his father came and stood by him to encourage him. He couldn’t save his son from the grips of human law but came to stand with him and to speak words of encouragement to him in his last hours. He told his son: “The LORD is waiting to receive you at the other side!”

🌍Our anchor scripture records one of the grimmest time in Christ’s life. As He approached his crucifixion with every passing second, He could see clearly the agony that was before Him. But in those moments, He showed us that when you start loving someone, you don’t stop. Not even when your heart is heavy or your hands worn and weary! What to do is: Keep loving! Find something, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to uplift and better the life of the one you truly love.

🌍As our anchor says,
“having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.”(John 13:1b)

🌍Jesus made sure He didn’t cease demonstrating personal love to His disciples even when it was grim for Him.

🌍And what did He do to show them His love once again? It was to humble Himself and wash their feet. Their tired, dusty and dirty feet.

🌍Dear Spouses, your marriage will become more solid, much deeper and by far more meaningful when you walk in Christ’s wisdom and example of finding something to do to add to the life of your spouse; even when it’s so obvious that you’re in pain or facing some tough challenges. Christ took it as duty to keep loving His disciples and He loved them to the very end.

🌍Spouses, please listen. Marriage is one of life’s biggest privileges. It’s one of God’s precious and dearest gifts irrespective of the fact that marriages are everywhere.

🌍It’s a privilege to have that special man or woman in your life today who is your spouse; and they’re exclusively yours.

🌍Commit to loving them daily irrespective of whether they reciprocate your gestures or not. Choose to find something new to add to their life every new day. Doesn’t have to be something big. Christ’s washing the Disciples feet was not big but touching, sobering and impactful.

🌍Love your Mate thoughtfully and creatively EVERY NEW DAY.

🌍Sit down, think and imagine; and God will give you brilliant ideas that would bless your Mate’s life just as Jesus’s washing of the Disciples’ feet blessed and uplifted their spirits.
