I ONCE HEARD OF A COUPLE WHO QUARRELLED at the top of their voices one late evening not minding the fact that their neighbours in the small housing estate were hearing them.
As they hurled abuses at each other, one said something like:
“Look at your Father with his bulging eyeballs as if he’s an “Owl-Witch” just coming from the coven.” The other replied: “How about your Mother with her heavy tummy as if she’s carrying an everlasting pregnancy!” And on and on they went and their neighbours couldn’t help but laugh hilariously.
When Spouses speak this way, they bring down a thick atmosphere of shame and nauseating stench into their union that will hang there for days. Why? Because corrupt words are like decaying corpses.
Our anchor scripture shows that the throats of those who speak foul words is like an open grave. And when a grave is open, the smell of decaying dead flesh fill the entire atmosphere. Is it any wonder that God strongly tells us:
“Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.”(Ephesians 4:29)
In Marriage, there’s a great need for Spouses to learn how to speak to each other as the Sweetheart and Lovers that they are in marriage.
You can learn how to speak as Lovers by reading the Song of Solomon again and again.
For instance, in Song of Solomon chapter 4,
the man spoke glowingly about his lady’s eyes, hair, teeth, lips and neck and then added:
“THOU ART ALL FAIR, MY LOVE; THERE IS NO SPOT IN THEE.”(Song of Solomon 4:7)
The lady also gave a beautifully worded admiration of her husband. This is how it should be in every Marriage.
Sweet words fill your relationship with the fragrance of Love, while corrupt words will fill your union with the stench of decaying corpses.
Choose to speak as Lovers all day long like the Song of Solomon couple.
