ONE OF THE AMAZING TESTIMONIES I HEARD as a young Believer in the early 1980s is that of a couple who married as young worldlings. They both enjoyed the things of the world together until when the husband suddenly met the Lord through the preaching of the Gospel and became born again. His wife wasn’t happy with the new godly and pious man her husband had become and so tried to subtly influence him to return to the world but he stood firm in Christ. Then the wife switched over to persecuting him in diverse ways but he remained unruffled. The beautiful thing about him in his relationship with his wife was that he walked in pure christian love towards her and never allowed bitterness in his heart against her. Then one day, the wife decided to do something she believed would break his spirit. Please, what you’re going to read next is nauseating.

On that day, she refused to cook his afternoon meal but instead took his eating bowls to their toilet where she “pooped” into the plate for food and “peeid” into the one for soup. And since there must be meat in the soup, she blew her nose into the urine. She closed the plates, set them in his tray and awaited his return from his workplace.

After he returned and changed into his home wears, he asked for his lunch. She went for the wickedness she’d prepared and presented it before him. He prayed and opened the plates and saw the eyesore. He silently closed the plates and walked into the bedroom and laid down on the bed. He spoke not a word.

Sir, Ma, do you remember the teaching of Christ on turning the other cheek when you’ve been smitten on one? Do you remember what the scripture says about Christ being reviled and not answering his revilers? You remember the exhortation that charges us not to resist evil and to never avenge ourselves? Well, what you may not know is that giving obedience to those commands lead to the release of supernatural power of God to do in the life of your persecutors what you would never achieve by angry outbursts and wild physical confrontations.

Let’s get back to the story of the woman who served her husband “evil launch”. As she saw her husband’s godly reaction to what would make most men boil with rage and wrath, she broke down in tears as the power of God convicted her of her Sins. Guiltiness invaded her heart and her entire being and she went to her husband in the bedroom, knelt down and in tears asked him to forgive her. Right there he told her that she had his forgiveness. The wife then begged him to teach her how she also could be born again like him and he right there preached the Gospel to her afresh and she willingly received Christ into her heart and became born again!

It’s the kind of behaviour this husband put up that our anchor scripture is asking wives who live with an unsaved husband to exhibit in their relationship with their Man.

Dear Spouses, living out the Word of God will make your life a powerful sermon that God will use to preach to your unsaved Spouse until they surrender to Christ in true repentance and genuine faith in Him.
