OF ALL THE CREATED THINGS THAT HAD BREATH in their nostrils, only Adam was made without his own female. God wanted him to first experience loneliness and the lack of a companion; so that when eventually he had one, he would highly esteem her, love her and appreciate her.
Towards the end of Adam’s bachelorhood, God gave him an opportunity to find himself a companion from the Animal Kingdom. Our anchor scripture passage shows that his efforts to find one failed woefully as none of the animals was suitable for him. It was at this point that God created and presented to him the most beautiful and the most fascinating Spectacle his eyes had ever beheld: a woman in her full splendour and majesty and completely naked! The impact of the sheer sight of her was so strong that Adam who had all along been mute, instantly waxed poetic, voicing his famous and striking utterance recorded in Genesis 2:23.
Before the arrival of Eve, Adam would sometimes go horseback riding on the beaches of the Rivers of Eden, after his day’s work. He’d sit down to watch the Peacocks, Zebras, Giraffes and other beautiful creatures. But the arrival of Eve changed everything! He found his lover, sweetheart, heartbeat and soulmate; and all his former hobbies and interests dwindled into insignificance as they longer had his affection. And the next thing was that Adam clave to Eve. He didn’t just stand by her, HE CLAVE TO HER as we see in verse 24 of our anchor scripture passage.
Dear husband, it’s true that unlike the time of Adam in the garden of Eden, the world is now full of women of diverse shapes and sizes. But you need to also realize that the fact that women are everywhere doesn’t mean that your wife is a common entity to be belittled as many men do. No! She’s a high personage to be daily celebrated! That’s why the Spirit of God led me to sing in my Song titled “HELLO HUSBAND” that your wife “is unique and special; different from every other woman. Praise, her, esteem her, admire her; acknowledge her worth and appreciate her.”
The Bible says that the man who has found a wife has found A GOOD THING (Proverbs 18:22) and that’s a timeless statement that’s forever true. Your wife is an incomparably precious gift. And according to Proverbs 18:22, she’s a physical embodiment of God’s divine favour graciously extended to you in mercy.
Truth is: no man deserves the beautiful and sexy wife that he has. Adam didn’t deserve his and was even surprised to find himself gifted with such a Partner and his speech betrayed the fact that he was in awed at what God had done for him. So also should every other man be awed whom God has graciously blessed with a wife.
Unfortunately, very many husbands in our day don’t know the worth of their wives. No man that knows the worth of his wife would raise a hand to beat her; let alone going to the treacherous extent of removing his dress and sleeping with another woman. It’s an unfortunate display of marital-love bankruptcy and being in a state of extreme lack of matrimonial integrity
If you truly know the worth of the woman God has graciously given to you as your wife, you’d not love her superficially. You’d love her supremely, cherish her and pamper her. That’s why the Holy Ghost led me to sing thus in my other Love Song titled “YOUR WIFE IS A FINE LADY”:
“Your wife is a Fine Lady, she is a Unique Woman; Your wife is a Sweet Lady, she is a Special Woman;
She needs your affection and your full attention; she needs tender loving care, she needs to be pampered; she needs to be wooed: like you did when at first you met her; she needs to be courted, more than in your days of courtship; she needs to be treated, like a First Lady or a Queen; she needs to be tenderly loved: by YOU her husband, the Man she so loved and married!”
What does it mean to cherish a woman? It’s to enfold her not just with loving arms but to wrap her with your very heart. It’s to prize her extremely high and joyfully shower her with admiration and adulations. It’s to be happily willing to go to any extent to meet her needs. It’s to adore her. Yes, you heard me well: adore her.
Admittedly, these ways of love are foreign to most husbands and understandably so; because we live in a fallen world that has completely lost God’s concepts of love and marriage. But in the Church, husbands should everyone open their eyes and hearts to learn God’s ways of matrimonial love, since we’re commanded in Romans 12: 2 not to be conformed to the world but be transformed by the renewing of our minds.
It’s time for every husband to transfigure into a sweet and romantic lover who endlessly cherishes and adores their wife as the very special gift from God that she truly is.
