AFTER GOD COMPLETED THE CREATION OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL breathing being on the face of the Earth, He proudly walked with her to present her to her husband.
Upon seeing her, Adam couldn’t contain his joy and excitement and so uttered the unforgettable words of Genesis 2:23.
Now, listen to this. Immediately Adam was done speaking, God went on to declare our anchor scripture for today. Those words succinctly define marriage for all time: It’s a life of CONTINUALLY embracing, cleaving and bonding with your spouse. You must never lose sight of this definition.
And for your marriage to be the successful, romantic and thrilling union that God intended, you must see those words as much more than a mere definition. You must make living out those words your joyful duty EVERYDAY. Here’s how:
1) MENTAL AND EMOTIONAL EMBRACING, BONDING AND CLEAVING.
Marriage is a Love Affair and in every love affair, the mind and the emotions must be heavily involved or else it soon fizzles out.
This means that you must consciously and deliberately keep your Spouse at the fore of your thoughts and affection. Let them be in your waking thoughts. You achieve this by practically placing within your view, tokens that would evoke affection, passion and goodwill towards your dear Spouse; even though they may be a thousand miles away. Use a good picture of your Spouse as the screensaver of your phone, laptop and desktop. Keep another framed photo of your beloved Mate conspicuously on your office table. Keep yet another at another vantage point in your office. Another should be in your car. Infact, some Spouses place the picture of their Mate audaciously on the windshield or windscreen, not minding what any one would say.
Each time your eyes see these pictures, something happens inside you. It could be a feeling of approval, appreciation, a recollection of something from the past. Or it could a desire or an affirmative thought that tells you that God indeed blessed you with the right partner.
2) PHYSICAL EMBRACING, BONDING AND CLEAVING.
The truth is: the fundamental or basic cleaving, embracing and bonding in marriage is sexual. Yes, it’s sexual intercourse! Our anchor scripture tells us “the end” of the cleaving, embracing and bonding “exercises”. It makes the Spouses ONE FLESH. What else makes a man and woman one flesh if not sexual intercourse? Therefore, to have the strong and healthy Marriage as God intended, yours must be a union that emphasizes physical acts of hugging, embracing, kissing, petting, necking, fondling, caressing, smooching and sexual intimacy on DAILY BASIS.
If what you desire is a marriage of your own fanciful creation and design, well, you’re free to discard this teaching. But if you want the kind of marriage that God instituted in Eden, then follow this teaching and yours will, by God’s grace, be a beautiful and breathtakingly glorious union that’s a little heaven on earth.
