EVEN AS AN ORDINARY “RECRUIT” brought to the Palace for the contest that would lead to the selection of the next Queen, Esther had 7 Maidens attending to her.
You can only imagine how many Maidens must have been at her beck and call as soon as she became the Wife, Queen and Empress of King Ahasuerus.
But one day, information came that her husband had signed a Decree that ordered all the Jews in his kingdom to be killed on a given date. Physically speaking, she had no access to the King according to the law of the land. But thank God, Esther had been brought up to know the Power of Fasting and Prayer. She therefore chose to embark on A THREE DAY DRY FAST to seek God’s intervention.
On the last day of the Fast, she dressed up in her queenly regalia and went forth to see the King, contrary to the law.
The first result of the Fast was that the King stretched forth his scepter towards her signifying his acceptance of her person, even though she had broken the Law.
The next result was that the King told her to ask whatever she desired and it would be done; even to the half of his vast kingdom of 128 provinces!
Third result was a repeat offer of the last favour.
The fourth result was one the most striking of all: God seized the sleep of the king and made him remember the good act of Queen Esther’s Uncle, Mordecai, who was already targeted for hanging by Haman, the same man who plotted the elimination of the Jews.
The King unknowingly disgraced Haman to honour Mordecai for what he had done for him in the past!
The fifth result was another repeat of the great offer to give Esther half the Kingdom!
The sixth result was that Esther successfully exposed Haman’s plot to destroy her, a Jewess, as well as her people. Now, the king never knew that his wife was a Jewess. This got him greatly alarmed and thinking like: So Haman lured him to decree the death of his own wife? Now the table was turned against Haman!
The seventh result was that Haman’s secret plot to hang the Queen’s Uncle, Mordecai, was suddenly disclosed to the King and he ordered Haman to be hanged where he had prepared to hang Mordecai.
There are other stunning results from the three-day dry fast but we won’t look at them now.
The lesson of all this is: Fasting and Prayer is a spiritual weapon given to all Believers including married couples. It’s a weapon for use anytime. You must however do it with each other’s consent and cooperation(1 Corinthians 7:5)
When you and your Spouse are faced with what looks like a Death Decree devised by some Wicked Haman to harm your family, take time off from the blessings of married love and fast together or as individuals. Cry out to God and He will arise and crush your “Wicked Haman” just as He did for Queen Esther.
