VIRTUALLY ALL MARRIAGES BEGIN ON A NOTE OF CELEBRATION AND GREAT JOY. This is understandable because getting married is one of the major achievements in life.
However, it’s of uttermost importance that all couples be also conscious of the important fact that the Earth is a battlefield and there are dark forces that hate to see marriages thrive and are avowed to fight them. The activities of these evil forces are responsible for most of the tragedies and disasters in marriages.
After God finished the work of creation, the first thing the devil attacked was not the Earth’s vegetation or it’s rivers and hills. Neither was it the solar system. The first thing he attacked was the MARRIED COUPLE and he unfortunately succeeded in altering their lives and causing them to lose their beautiful and rich home: the garden of Eden!
You probably have heard the true life story of a couple that just got married and when they had undressed in the night and were about to have their first sexual intimacy, the husband suddenly let out a loud groan and vanished into the thin air! A search had to be embarked upon and He was found several days after in the forest tied up and unable to talk. The forces that attacked him struck him dumb.
Marriage has enemies both in the human world as well as in the satanic world of darkness; and that’s why taking the message of our anchor scriptures for today to heart becomes very important to you and your Spouse.
Today’s devotional piece definitely isn’t meant to make you afraid. No. If you’re a child of God, know assuredly that God’s presence is with you always. Nevertheless, it’s important that you know the spiritual realities of the world in which we live; so that you’ll be sober and vigilant to deal with devil when ever he comes your way.
When you look at Joseph and Mary in the Bible, they were a sober and vigilant couple.
Even when Joseph was disappointed with the pregnancy of Mary and wanted to quietly quit the marriage, he was still sober. He didn’t let Mary’s mysterious pregnancy make him “get mad” at her. His heart was closed so anger, bitterness and all the negative emotions that could make one lose their sober composure. He was FULLY SOBER and it was in that state of mind he dreamt and God explained Mary’s pregnancy to him and he gladly took her to himself (Matthew 1: 18-21).
One sober and sobering activity that that will give you access to divine revelations that will save you from the snares the enemy will set for you, your spouse and your family is daily prayer fellowship with God. By this we mean observing a time of personal fellowship with God in your prayer closet EVERYDAY. In this respect, let me share a testimony I read in a book many years ago that goes to prove that leading a quiet personal life of prayerfulness connects you to divine revelations that crush the devil’s plots.
A born again Christian brother who was about Wedding took his time to earnestly pray daily committing his wedding into the hands of God.
One day, the Lord spoke to him and told him that he should not touch his wife the first three nights of their honeymoon. He accepted the message and kept it to himself.
On the first night of their marriage, he didn’t touch his new wife until morning. When they woke up, his Bride was disappointed. It was then he opened up and told her what God had told him. She understood and cooperated with him for two remaining nights. On the fourth night, they had their first sexual intimacy.
After that, he got a message that his mother was sick. He rushed there. When he saw his mother, she began confessing that she was responsible for the infertility in the marriages of her first five sons whose wives couldn’t conceive! Continuing her confession, she disclosed that she always came to her sons spiritually on the first night of their marriage while they’re making love with their wife. There she would collect the first seed of copulation of the son and take it away. From that point, no more conception by their wives. She did this successfully to her first five sons. But the last son was the only one that escaped her. And immediately she finished confessing, she died!
Our anchor scripture tells us to be sober and vigilant. To be sober means: don’t be drunk or carried away by anything. Let your mind be always collected and calm. To be vigilant means to be wide-eyed and watchful. When you’re sober and vigilant, you’ll know when the enemy, even Satan, is around and you’ll be able to resist him.
Just as we have already seen, another advantage of being sober and vigilant is that you’ll be able to pick heavenly signals of messages that God will be sending to warn, direct or guide you away from danger points. Several times these signals show up in form of dreams.
Be sober and vigilant in the spirit all the time, so you don’t become prey for the devil to devour.
