LOVEBIRDS' DEVOTIONAL

Enriching Matrimonies

PERSIST, PERSEVERE AND PREVAIL

Scripture:
‘AND THE PEOPLE MURMURED AGAINST MOSES, SAYING, WHAT SHALL WE DRINK?’
(EXODUS 15: 24)

Your Marriage is a journey.

It’s comparable to the journey of the children of Israel from Egypt to Canaan, the promised land.

If there ever was an assignment that had so much heavenly validation, it was the assignment of Moses to bring the children of Israel out of Egypt to Canaan. Yet, it faced so much challenges and oppositions.

In much the same way, the abundance of heavenly validations that your marriage is indeed of God does not mean that your union will not face challenges and oppositions. They will come again and again and again. But our topic for this Devotional piece gives you the clue on how to win: persist, persevere and you’ll prevail.

The Bible tells us that whatsoever is born of God overcomes the world(1 John 5:4). That scripture foretells you that you will be opposed by the world. However, it’s in the face of oppositions that the inherent overcoming nature in you will manifest itself and you will prevail.

If God joined you and your Spouse and made you one flesh, then your union is of God. And because it’s of God, you need not have any fears that you’ll crash or hit the rocks. Persist and persevere and you’ll prevail.

The more the oppositions and challenges come, the more you’ll need to hold each other’s hand and stand in unity. United and standing together, you’ll win.

Some years ago, a certain Preacher was targeted by the devil for scandal. A number of strange women came out from no where with lies against him. I just bless God for his dear wife. She refused to believe any of those accusations. She stood firmly beside her man. And today, all those lying women who allowed themselves to be used by the devil have been put to shame.

When you face challenges in your marriage, it’s not time to find faults with each other, play the blame game or murmur against God. That’s the mistake the children of Israel made as we can see in our anchor scripture for today.

When faced with three days of thirst and lack of water, they murmured. They soon forgot all the glorious demonstrations of the presence and power of God they had seen in Egypt and at the Red Sea. They walked by sight and their feelings and murmured. Much later in their journey, that attitude of murmuring led to the death of very many of them.

Be mature and wise.

There’s nothing good or worthwhile that will not face challenges and oppositions. Your marriage is no exception.

Some left their marriage because it was rocked with frequent challenges. They hoped that they’ll find a better Spouse “whose life is prosperous” unlike “the accursed and unprogressive person they mistakenly married.” But sadly, they’re still unmarried. They’re yet to find “the prosperous person” they forsook their partner for. But behold the Spouse they despised and abandoned is shining today. And another person has already taken they’re place.

Don’t give up on your marriage. Don’t give up on your Spouse. Your challenges have an expiry date.

Stand together in unity.

Persist, persevere and you’ll gloriously prevail.
