🎈🎈🌹One of the major threats to the success of marriages is adultery. Adultery has been, and remains, one of the devil’s most effective means of fighting and weakening marriages.
With it, he has successfully scarred, maimed, and amputated millions of otherwise beautiful and promising marriages, leaving them looking ugly and bereft of loveliness. This is why there are rarely marriages so strikingly beautiful and exemplary that young people can draw inspiration and motivation from them to marry.
🎈🎈🌹BUILT ON LOVE AND FIDELITY
It is on record that when George Whitefield of England was in America on a preaching tour, he spent some time in the home of Preacher Jonathan Edwards. His encounter with their marriage impacted him so strongly that it inspired him to marry the very next year! That is the power of a marriage built on love and fidelity.
Engaging in infidelity, extramarital affairs, or cheating—whatever names you prefer to call it—does not show that you are a “smart guy,” “sharp lady,” “big babe,” or a “playboy,” as the devil tells you. Rather, the opposite is true: you are a dunce, an ignoramus, and a person lacking in maturity and wisdom. Why? Because in committing adultery, you are actually going down into a filthy, foul, and muddy pond to swim! You only end up defiling your spirit, soul, and body (Leviticus 18:20). Thereafter, you spiritually stink, and an air of ill-favor hangs around you.
🎈🎈🌹GOD ABHORS ADULTERY
Adultery is a grievous and heinous sin that God greatly abhors.
Even in the most primitive human societies, adultery is so loathed that it is considered a horrifying abomination. Is it any wonder, then, that God places the death penalty on those who commit it?
🎈🎈🌹JUDGMENT IN THIS LIFE!
Hebrews 13:4 declares that God will most certainly judge adulterers. Do not make the mistake of thinking God is only talking about punishment in the next life. No! Judgment on adultery begins here in this life. It includes affliction with mysterious and incurable diseases (Proverbs 5:3-4, 11-14), a charred and burnt-down life (Proverbs 6:27-29), disgrace, shame, and loss of reputation (Proverbs 6:33), human anger and vengeance (Proverbs 6:34), and the destruction of the soul and the plague of guiltiness (Proverbs 6:32).
🎈🎈🌹DESTRUCTION OF THE SOUL AND THE PLAGUE OF GUILTINESS
In talking about how adultery destroys the soul and inflicts guilt, I remember a true-life story David Yonggi Cho told in one of his books. It concerns a young lady who lived with her elder sister and her sister’s husband. After her elder sister gave birth, the husband began eyeing the younger sister. He spoke to her, she consented, and so began an adulterous relationship that spanned years. It is even more disheartening because it all happened in the elder sister’s home, right under her nose, yet she had no idea and suspected nothing.
🎈🎈🌹THE REWARD OF THE WICKED
Later, the younger sister got married. God blessed her with a very wealthy husband. She lived in a home filled with luxury, but somehow, she was emaciating and getting leaner by the day. Her husband took her to several hospitals, but they could not diagnose her ailments; yet, she continued to diminish.
It was only when they went to an anointed servant of God that the cat was let out of the bag! She confessed how she had slept with her sister’s husband for years. You can imagine how embarrassing it must have been for her. Her husband probably froze in shock, and as for her elder sister, it must have been a horrifying nightmare.
It was after that confession that healing came to her life. What made her lean? Regret and guilt. Her conscience kept beating and biting her until her health was in shambles.
🎈🎈🌹RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!
Is the devil tempting you with another man or woman other than your spouse? He is not offering you enjoyment; he is giving you a slow and tortuous death. Run for your life!
