GREAT MARRIAGES DON’T just happen. They’re born from true love. And among the many qualities of true love is it’s ability to look beyond the present and see the future.
Today, we’re looking at a woman who had this love. Her name is Abigail. She was a very beautiful woman and was also wise.
In our anchor scripture for today, Abigail quickly accepted David’s marriage proposal sent through mere servants. Abigail could have asked why David didn’t come to see her personally to ask her hand in marriage but didn’t.
She refused to see David’s sending mere servants as an insult. Why? Because within her, she loved him, inspite of how his proposal came and the love in her saw beyond the present: the error in the manner of his proposal. She wouldn’t allow that fault to hinder her from possessing the good things the eyes of her love were already seeing in his marriage proposal.
Now, Abigail was the widow of a Billionaire and could have chosen to remain in her husband’s palatial home and enjoy herself as a rich widow but saw something better with the eyes of Love.
With the eyes of love, she saw beyond David’s present life of poverty, want and wondering.
She could see in David the future King of Israel. She could see the Kingdom of Saul coming to an end, and a new nation emerging with David as the President. And so she spoke the words of our anchor scripture.
In that scripture, she offered to be a servant to wash the feet of David’s servants. In other words, she was prepared to be a truly submissive wife to David.
Furthermore, she was prepared to throw away the privileges of being a rich widow and marry poor David to become a Queen when David would have become a King.
Can you see that true Love sees? Can you see that true Love is like Faith?
By faith, Moses rejected the privileges of being an Egyptian Prince and cast his lot with the people of God and later became a mighty Prophet.
With the eyes of Love, Jesus our Saviour saw beyond the shame of hanging on the Cross. He saw the joy that was set before Him and therefore endured the torture of crucifixion and is today Lord of Lords and King of kings.
If indeed it’s true Love that brought you into your Marriage, then quit seeing things with your physical eyes. What you see with your physical eyes could frustrate and discourage you.
See your mate with the eyes of love. See your marriage and home beyond how tattered and unsettled they may be today.
See the potentials, gifts and abilities in your Mate. Above all, see God!
Yes, true love sees God and trusts in Him; for He is the unchanging Changer, Who controls the universe and changes the stories of men.
Discipline and train your mind to see the best in your Spouse, your marriage and in your own self.
Seeing the wonderful and glorious future that’s ahead of you and your Mate with the eyes of love will fill you with hope and joy. It will positively affect your behaviour, attitude and conduct towards your Mate; making your marriage sweeter, even as you await the best that’s ahead of both of you!
