OUR ANCHOR SCRIPTURE PASSAGE presents the story of the great storm that arose against the ship in which Jesus and His Disciples were traveling to “the other side”. The storm was so fierce and so furious that the Disciples, several of whom were professional fishermen, men who were conversant with rivers, became seriously afraid and went to wake Jesus up in panic and fright!
Like Jesus and His Disciples, you and your Spouse are also travelling to “the other side” because Marriage is a journey. And as you make this glorious journey as a pair of Romantic Lovers, the Devil who is jealous of true and God-approved Lovers, will raise storms of different kinds against you. And of course, he’ll send them for various reasons: ranging from disrupting your matrimonial growth to pitching you against each other and creating a rift between you.
Some storms would be mild while others would be wild and extremely turbulent. But when you remember that the God Who joined you as husband and wife is with you and ever ready to help you, then you are positioned for VICTORY.
In the story of our anchor passage, the Disciples seemed to have suddenly lost sight of the Personality they were traveling with. They seemed to have forgotten Who Jesus is: THE SON OF THE MOST HIGH GOD! How could the Son of God be in their ship and a mere storm would overturn the vessel in which He rode? That was part of why Jesus wondered at them and asked: “Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?” The lowest and the most basic form of faith should have informed them that any ship in which Christ travelled was ABSOLUTELY UNSINKABLE!
When you’re faced with a storm as a couple, don’t lose sight of the greatness of the God Who is with you. You have no reason to give in to panic and fear like the Disciples wrongly did. Remember that God Almighty is with you in your journey. Have strong confidence in His presence as a permanent assurance that your Marriage and Family are unsinkable! Believe that God didn’t join you so that the storms of life would bring your union to a disgraceful and laughable ending.
Trust His presence as the reason why you will finish strong as a couple, leaving behind an enduring and powerful matrimonial testimony that will be an inspiration to the younger generation of Spouses.
When you’re faced with an intimidating, fierce and persistent Storm that just seems not to want to go, whatever the name, do not be discouraged! Instead, keep your eyes on Jesus Christ, the Author and Finisher of your faith, and sing this good old song:
“WITH CHRIST IN MY VESSEL, I CAN SMILE AT THE STORM, SMILE AT THE STORM, SMILE AT THE STORM;
WITH CHRIST IN MY VESSEL, I CAN SMILE AT THE STORM;
AS WE GO SAILING HOME!
SAILING, SAILING HOME;
SAILING, SAILING HOME;
WITH CHRIST IN MY VESSEL, I CAN SMILE AT THE STORM,
AS WE GO SAILING HOME!”
As you stand together, hand in hand, and in unrelenting faith, the storm will eventually bow out in ignominy and God will be mightily glorified!!!
