ONCE MARRIED, IT’S GOD’S WILL THAT YOU AND YOUR SPOUSE BE SEXUALLY ADDICTED TO EACH OTHER. It’s to this end that He decreed a year long honeymoon for newly married couples in Israel, complete with exemptions from local and national duties (Deuteronomy 24:5). When Spouses faithfully adhere to this command, giving themselves to intensive romantic and sexual activities as expected, they can’t do but be thoroughly addicted to each other at the end of the one year period. This addiction makes Spouses undesirous of adultery just as we see in our anchor scripture.
In our anchor scripture, the woman woke up in the night with a sudden longing FOR HER SPOUSE and not just for Sex with any Dick and Harry. But instead of looking for an “alternative romance” as many do these days, she chose to step into the dark night to look for her Love. To her, no other man would do. This is what Spousal Addiction can do for those who are “drunk with their Spouse.” This is testified to by Scripture:
“No man also having drunk OLD WINE straightway desireth new: for he saith, THE OLD IS BETTER.”(Luke 5:39).
Just recently, I read the nasty account of a young housewife who got on the NYSC camp and was caught sleeping with a fellow Corper. She had left her husband not up to 48 hours and she was so soon sleeping with another man. This is a case of sexual addiction and slavery. It’s no surprise because it simply proves she only lived with her husband but not addicted to him. Any other man would be okay for her once the unclean spirit of Lust descends on her in his absence.
It’s high time married couples returned to God’s commands, patterns and precepts to them on Sex in marriage. The earlier Spouses stopped viewing Sex as another version of Fornication, the better and the healthier for marriages.
On Fornication, God says FLEE!!!(2 Corinthians 6:18). On Adultery He says: THOU SHALT NOT COMMIT ADULTERY. But when it comes to sexual intimacy in marriage, He commands Spouses to DRINK, RENDER , DEFRAUD NOT! Can’t you see the difference? God vehemently forbids all forms and shades of sexual immorality but strongly urges, nay, commands couples to gleefully, avidly and enthusiastically make love. Why? Because, Sex as He created it is the covenant water(Proverbs 5:15-17) and the covenant wine(Songs 1:2) of Couples.
Dear Spouses, how often have you you been drinking your covenant Water and Wine? You might need to increase your intake of both. If God decreed a year long Honeymoon at the beginning of marriage, it’s obvious that in the fullness of the married life, the intake of the water and wine of marriage must be higher than at the beginning!
