There is “Christian Culture” which is completely different from CHRISTIANITY and is actually an adversary to it; just as there are traditional or tribal culture that oppose Christianity.

Very early in my spiritual life, I encountered the so-called “Christian Culture” and below is one of such instances.

It was a bright Saturday morning in the year I got born again. I was still less than five months old in Christ
but the zeal of God was burning high in my heart because of the presence of the Holy Spirit and the “tons” of new knowledge I’d amassed from the Christian literature I’d avidly read. Even though I a new convert, I knew so much so soon because I had read so much about Faith, Divine Healing, Holy Ghost Baptism, Evangelism, etc. Not to talk of the Bible that was my daily bread. What with all the christian books I’d bought from ECWA Bookshop Ilorin and the highly anointed OSFO tracts and books I had received from Evangelist T. L. Osborne Foundation in the USA?

In my zeal, I earnestly started personal evangelism in the Police Barracks.

It was on my way back from one of those outings that I met “Christian Culture” disguised in the person of a well respected Christian Brother in town.

“Brother Anselm! Where are you coming from at this time of the day?” he asked after we’d exchanged greetings. “I am coming from the Police Barracks where I went for Evangelism.” “Wow, Evangelism! Well, you’re still full of zeal. After sometime the zeal will completely fade away and you’ll begin living the normal christian life.” he said calmly. I smiled and left. I was young both in age and in the faith but my spirit wasn’t comfortable with his rather icy words. When I told my elder Sister what the Brother said, she was angry. “This is how they discourage young Christians!”, she said.

But I give thanks to God that contrary to his remarks, my zeal didn’t nosedive but soared even higher. In the next year when Evangelist Victor Oboyi was to hold the first pentecostal conference in that town, I was the main coordinator by the grace of God. By the hand of God, I obtained permission for the Ministry to use two Catholic Colleges for the conference!

In Marriage, you must watch against agents of Traditions and Culture who will tell you that after the first few years or months of marriage, “everything” will return to normal.

By normal they mean the fireless, loveless, thrillless and unromantic coexistence where the male and female chemistries are intentionally subdued in obedience to the so-called Traditions and Culture and marriage consequently becomes dull, drab, insipid and boring!

Dearly Beloved Spouses, if you want to keep the fire of your matrimonial lives burning hot and high, you must daily feed it’s flames with the fuels for love. And what are the fuels for love? They are those same activities that fuelled your Honeymoon and which the agents of Traditions and Culture tell you to relinquish. They’re kisses, hugs embraces, cuddling, lingering pillow talks, admiration, praise, appreciation, commendation, thoughtfulness, forgiveness, kindness, agreement, approval, companionship, adoration, adulation and loads of sexual intimacy. These are the natural attributes of Lovelife.
It’s the neglect of these hallmarks activities of loverhood that reduce the fires of love in marriages; leaving a pile of dead ashes.

And what happens after the fire is gone out?

The Spouses begin stumbling at each other because they can’t see one another as before.

So keeping the fire of love burning in your marriage doesn’t only give your union warmth and heat but is it’s sole source of light and illumination.

The Fire of Love is the Sunshine of your matrimonial world. Letting the fire of love, romance and sexual intimacy die down is accepting to have darkness fill your relationship.

Don’t accept the traditions and culture of men on Matrimony. Live your married life by the dictates of Scripture and your romance as a couple will never wane or grow dim.
