After ten years of walking with God in the of Canaan and seeing His faithfulness and power, Abraham and his wife, Sarah, made a big blunder.

In the first ten years of their pilgrimage, Abraham and Sarah successfully settled in Canaan land. In those years, they triumphed over a grievous famine and the abduction of Sarah in Egypt.

Next, Abraham’s economic status soared as he became exceedingly rich; God blessing him with wealth and prosperity.

In the same period of time, he went to war to rescue his brother, Lot, and was victorious.

To crown all these, God visited him in chapter 15 promised him a covenant son and gave him a detailed revelation of how his offspring would be enslaved for 400 years and finally return to possess the land of Canaan.

It was sometime after the unforgettable divine visitation in Genesis 15, that Sarah came along with the suggestion in our anchor scripture for today! And unfortunately, Abraham who demonstrated great Faith in chapter 15, became spiritually reckless as to accept her offer without first consulting God.

As a result of that error, Ishmael, a Son with a contrary spirit was born into Abraham’s family. And for thousands of years, that Son and his offsprings have been the greatest enemies and persecutors of the covenant children of Abraham.

Here are our lessons:

(1) WIVES, KNOW THAT THE DEVIL SEES YOU AS THE BRIDGE FOR REACHING AND ATTACKING YOUR HUSBAND.
Look how cheaply the devil got Abraham and planted his Agent in his family by using Sarah. Isn’t it similar to how he used Eve to cheaply get Adam to disobey God and lose everything?

Wives, please check every suggestion that coming to your heart before voicing them to your Man. Pray about it and be sure it’s from God before you give it to your husband as “advise”.

(2) HUSBAND, DON’T ACCEPT YOUR WIFE’S SUGGESTIONS ON IMPORTANT MATTERS WITHOUT FIRST PRAYING TO GOD AND GETTING HIS APPROVAL
Abraham blundered badly in this matter. No hesitation, no meditation or no sober consideration over Sarah’s suggestion. He just swallowed it hook, line and sinker.

Whatever was his real motivation for accepting the wrong suggestion, we all know that it backfired ever before Hagar gave birth! So let’s be careful.

(3) SPOUSES, NEVER LEAN ON YOUR OWN UNDERSTANDING
Don’t step into any major project just because your “head” says it’s right. You’re likely to regret it. Be not wise in your own eyes!(Proverbs 3:7a)
