AFTER THE DEATH OF JOSEPH, there arose a new king over Egypt who unleashed a reign of terror on the Israelites. His name? Pharaoh Seti 1. He was the one that began the cruel enslavement of the Israelites.
However, our concern today is how the Israelites stood tall in the face of that cruel tyranny and how they experienced explosive growth in population despite the great oppression.
What was their secret? THEIR STRONG MARRIAGES! They were committed to practicing COMPLETE marriage even in the face of their drastically altered lifestyle.
The Israelites so strongly believed in their marriages that, instead of allowing the severe afflictions to make them withdraw from sexual intimacy in their matrimonies, they prioritized and intensified it. Why? Because they had an understanding that most don’t: the BEDROOM IS MIGHTIER THAN THE CRUELEST TYRANT AND HIS DECREES.
Because they refused to let the Egyptians’ cruelty tamper with their marriages and especially their bedroom lives, a new couple, Amram and Jochebed, got married and gave birth to Moses whom God used to break the backbone of Egypt!
But what do we see nowadays? Spouses suspending crucial aspects of their Marriages for flimsy reasons: “Didn’t I tell you there’s a Panel investigating my Department? Stop disturbing me about Sex. Infact, I’m not ready for anything until AFTER the Panel has submitted it’s report in three months time. Have I made myself understood?” Because a Panel is probing your activities in the office, the core aspect of your matrimonial office must stand suspended?
Sometimes the scenario is even religious: “Honey, you know I’ve been elected as Women Fellowship Leader and it’s my duty to represent our women at the provincial, diocesan, and other levels. So, I can’t be available for your carnal and lustful demands, as before!”
Sir/Ma, Marriage is sacred! Your love and commitment to your Spouse mustn’t wane because you got a new appointment or because there’s a routine check ongoing in your department.
If under a harsh and repressive regime, the Israelites kept their Marriages strong, because they UNDERSTOOD that it was their secret weapon for silently “fighting” those who were out to break their spirits and reduce their population, much more should you who is in this wonderful era of Grace understand that sexual intimacy in marriage is much more than for making babies but a means of receiving fresh comfort, consolation, reinvigoration, rejuvenation, mood enhancement and other manifold benefits to help you overcome challenges in a world of ceaseless strifes and distresses.
