THE COUPLES BEHIND CHRISTMAS ๐ŸŽ„๐ŸŽ (PT. 3)

Scripture:
‘AND JESSE BEGAT DAVID THE KING; AND DAVID THE KING BEGAT SOLOMON OF HER THAT HAD BEEN THE WIFE OF URIAS’
(MATTHEW 1:6)

๐Ÿ‘ ๐ŸงขNo marriage is hopeless.

๐Ÿ‘ ๐ŸงขAnd one marriage in which this is most vividly demonstrated is the marriage of David and Bathsheba.

๐Ÿ‘ ๐ŸงขThe marriage of David and Bathsheba needs no introduction to most people; especially church-going people. Why? Because of the scandal out of which it emerged to cover-up King’s David’s tracks.

๐Ÿ‘ ๐ŸงขBut despite the smear and stains of adultery out of which it emerged, it still turned out to be a successful union that produced the heir to King David’s throne in the person of Solomon.

๐Ÿ‘ ๐ŸงขHadn’t David sons from his earlier Marriages? Of course, he had. But behold the amazing providence of God. It was the son of Bathsheba that God chose to sit on David’s throne in his stead.

๐Ÿ‘ ๐ŸงขAnd Solomon didn’t just inherit and ascend the throne of David, he became a most spectacular king who was in a different and distinguished class of his own. He had a glory and influence that was different and larger than David his father’s. In wealth, wisdom and splendour, he surpassed and outshone his father David.

๐Ÿ‘ ๐ŸงขSo what’s our lesson? It’s this: there’s hope for your marriage.

๐Ÿ‘ ๐ŸงขDid you and your Spouse marry each other because a pregnancy occurred and there was nothing else you could do but settle down with each other even though you wished you could marry someone else and at much farther date in the future? Learn from David and Bathsheba. David never planned to marry Bathsheba and neither was Bathsheba desirous of becoming part of the king’s big harem. A morally “deadly pregnancy” that carried the death penalty forced both of them to get married.

๐Ÿ‘ ๐ŸงขBut, behold, the providence of God swept their embarrassment off completely and made that marriage as beautiful as it could ever be.

๐Ÿ‘ ๐ŸงขDid men badmouth and gossip David and Bathsheba because of their sin of adultery? You can be sure they did.
They definitely took so much tongue lashing. But did they survive it? Yes, they did. And a son of that marriage became Israel’s next King after the reign of his father.

๐Ÿ‘ ๐ŸงขThat son, King Solomon, wrote some of the great books of the Bible: Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and The Song of Solomon.

๐Ÿ‘ ๐ŸงขSo, don’t write your marriage off and don’t let anyone else do so either.
Cleave to each other and obey God’s Word on Marriage and God will make your union a channel of His divine blessings to many.
