Enriching Matrimonies

THE HOUSEWIFE: A LOVER AND A WARRIOR.

Scripture:
‘BUT THE MORE THEY AFFLICTED THEM, THE MORE THEY MULTIPLIED AND GREW. AND THEY WERE GRIEVED BECAUSE OF THE CHILDREN OF ISRAEL.’
(EXODUS 1: 12)

WHEN THE EGYPTIAN OPPRESSION OF THE CHILDREN
of Israel began, their enemies definitely thought they’d reduce their population in no time.

But because the Israelites kept their marriages intact and fully functional, the depletion of their population didn’t only get quickly replenished, their ROBUST LOVE LIVES IN THE FACE OF TYRANNY became a great source of reinvigoration and rejuvenation for their oppressed husbands whose spirits the Tyrant particularly sought to break. Their strong and amorous marriages became a fortress of defense around them. For this, their wives are much to be commended because they recognized the oppression as not just not an expression of hatred but as an all-out war to terminate Israel and they chose to be Warriors who fought the Tyrant from behind the scene. They fought the Tyrant with their womanhood and in line with the saying of Frank Crane:

“A MAN’S HOUSE IS HIS FORTRESS IN A WARRING WORLD, WHERE A WOMAN’S HAND BUCKLES ON HIS ARMOUR IN THE MORNING AND SOOTHES HIS FATIGUE AND WOUNDS AT NIGHT.”

We have much to learn from the Hebrew women of that grim era. They had a knowing that giving their overworked husbands romantic and sexual affection was one of the ways they could effectively minister comfort, consolation, encouragement and strength to them; fortifying them to face the next day. Therefore between dusk and dawn each day, they used loving and amorous affection to nurse, tend, refresh and renew them before they’d face the next day’s toils. As a result those men would walk to work with spring in their feet, fresh courage in their hearts and smiles on their faces to the shock of their oppressors.

These wonderful Hebrew wives chose to be brave and fearless! They were prepared to carry new pregnancies despite the “Death Decree” on their unborn male infants. To them, it was the least they could do to back up their husbands who daily came face to face with Pharaoh’s cruel and heartless attack dogs: The Taskmasters.

Dear Wife, what’s going on in your own home and marriage TODAY? Has your husband been sacked? Is he neckdeep in a legal battle that’s costing so much money and yet the prospects of winning are very bleak and the jailhouse seems to beckon? Is the kitchen cupboard empty of food? Are you both going through your worst tough times as a couple? Is your husband unable to make any preparations for the family to have a merry Christmas?
Well, what ignorant wives would do at such a time is to weep buckets, sulk and withdraw from intimacy with their husbands; compounding his troubles. But that’s not how the Israelite wives handled the horrifying tough times they faced. They, instead, stood staunchly beside their husbands. And that’s how they survived one of the worst genocides in history.

The Israelite wives turned their evenings and nights into NEW HONEYMOON SEASONS. You can walk in their footsteps and be victorious over the present challenges in your home. Stand with your man instead of standing against him.

Don’t let the present challenges in your family make you suspend any aspects of your Marriage. It’s during hard times that you need each other the most. It’s during tough times that you need sex, affection, companionship, loving communication, compassion, and mutual trust the most. Don’t withhold them.
