🔑When I was in the primary school, we had a man in our neighbourhood who would beat his wife, push her to the ground and kick her with his foot even though she was pregnant!
🔑And as an adult, I’ve read about other bullies including the man who used a strong military belt to beat his wife with all his strength; not minding if he would end up placing permanent scars on her body.
🔑The truth is: such a conduct is completely contradictory to life and reason; just as our anchor scripture confirms.
🔑Our anchor scripture tells us that no man hates his own flesh or body. But that’s exactly what the man who beats his wife is doing, no matter his reasons or excuses.
🔑For a man to beat his wife, it shows that something is gravely wrong with him. The problem may be mental or spiritual.
🔑Those who bully and batter their wives may successfully instill fear into them but push her heart hundreds of miles away from themselves even though they still live under the same roof. With each devastating blow of cruelty, they push the woman farther and farther from themselves.
🔑Our anchor scripture shows husbands how to effectively love their wives. To understand what it’s saying, you need to know that
the preceding verse (Ephesians 5:28) commands husbands to love their wives in the same way they love their bodies.
🔑In the follow up verse, which is our anchor scripture for today, husbands are commanded to Nourish and Cherish their wives even as Christ does the Church!
🔑By the word NOURISH God is saying that husbands should lovingly feed, be protective of and deeply care for their wives. Feeding here includes physical, spiritual and emotional nourishments.
🔑And by the word CHERISH, God is telling husbands to tenderly love their wives: much like a foster parent lovingly cares for an orphaned infant child, holding it tenderly and delicately in her warm embrace. 🔑Wives indeed deserve this deep level of affection because even though they’re not orphaned, they’ve left father, mother, kith and kin to be their husband’s and to bear his name for the rest of their lives. Therefore, Nourishing and Cherishing them as God commands is the right way to successfully live with them.
🔑NOURISH AND CHERISH your wife joyfully, zealously and continually just as Christ does the Church and you’ll discover that she’ll be completely open to you. Why? Because supreme love is the key🔑 that unlocks a woman’s heart. Not tyranny!
