GOD’S LAMENTATION in Hosea 4: 6 that His people are destroyed for lack of knowledge, isn’t referring to ignorance in spiritual matters alone. He’s talking about ignorance in both the spiritual and physical spheres of life.
One of the areas where many who profess faith in God are being destroyed by ignorance is the sexual aspect of Marriage.
Very many Churchgoing Spouses have the myopic view that sexual intimacy is only for procreation or for making babies. Beyond making babies, they just have no idea of what else sexual intimacy is meant for. Some of these people are not only ignorant but rude, arrogant and contentious with their scripturally wrong belief. Consequently, there’s constant crisis in their marriage over Sex: a Blessing that’s meant to enrich their lives in so many ways.
Sir/Ma, Sexual Intimacy is a MULTIPURPOSE GIFT that’s meant to bring diverse blessings into your lives as a couple. Our anchor scripture calls it “Waters” and that’s exactly what it is to your love lives as a couple. Just as physical Water has multiple usages, so also is sexual intimacy in marriage.
In this morning’s devotional piece, we shall look at
God’s diverse purposes for sexual intimacy in Marriages.
🍇🍷🍫🥮🍯(1) CLEAVING(Genesis 2:24)
Sexual Intimacy is firstly for creating the bond that makes spouses One Flesh. It’s by sexual intimacy that Marriages are consummated, made valid and the couple become One flesh.
🍇🍷🍫🥮🍯(2) COMPANIONSHIP
Sexual Intimacy is for companionship. It’s the arena where the Spouses’ nature as fully matured male and female and their sexuality are given the freedom of legitimate expression.(Genesis 1:27)
🍇🍷🍫🥮🍯(3) COMPREHENSION
It’s given to Spouses as a means of understanding and knowing each other on the emotional, sensual and other deeper levels(Genesis 4:1a).
The time of sexual intimacy is a classroom. The couple read each other and write on one another. In this classroom they receive fresh and renewed knowledge of each other. Note that the husband’s sexual organ is a Pen and the wife’s is an Eight Page Book.
🍇🍷🍫🥮(4) CONCEPTION
It’s given for the conception of babies that would be the children and heirs of the Marriage(Genesis 4:1b)
🍇🍷🍫🥮(5) CELEBRATION
It’s for the continuance, sustainance and prolongation of the celebration of the wedding day! It’s the Wine of the union. It reignites the spirit of rejoicing in the union! (Deuteronomy 24: 5; Proverbs 5: 18; Song 1:2).
🍇🍷🍫🥮(6)COMFORT(Genesis 24:67)
Remember Isaac’s experience? He was an adult man of 37 years when his mother, Sarah, died.
For three years after her demise, he moved in the fog of uneasiness despite his massive wealth and the presence of his godly father, Abraham.
But when Rebecca came into his life, that thick cloud of restlessness immediately vanished.
Comfort, like a mighty rain rented the heavens and poured upon Isaac’s life, washing away his pains and filling his soul with joy.
Are you wondering exactly what brought down the Rain of Comfort? Was it that Rebecca was a better Cook than Mama Sarah? No! What brought great downpours of Comfort on Isaac’s life was the presence of Rebecca and the sweet sexual intimacy with her, night after night. His world simply changed and became completely new!
The same thing happened to Joseph when he was given a wife by Pharoah. Her presence in his life and the luxury of
constant sexual intimacy made him forget his pains and losses(Genesis 41:51)
Spouses, learn this secret: during tough times, get into bed and turn on the rain of Comfort. The mighty showers will freshen, revitalize and revivify both of you!
🍇🍷🍫🥮(6) CONFIDENCE
Like the wine that it truly is(Song of Solomon 1:2; Proverbs 5:19), sexual intimacy when “drunk” freely and frequently, intoxicates and reinvigorates. It triggers positive confidence and better appreciation of one’s body. Builds up your gender chemistries. Improves your self-esteem and makes you feel good and puts new springs in your feet!
