ONE OF THE GREAT COMPONENTS OF THE ORIGINAL MARRIAGE WAS NAKEDNESS. When God created the first couple, the concept of clothing wasn’t unknown to Him. He had billions of Angels in heaven and all of them were fully clothed; and He was the One Who provided clothing for them.

He deliberately chose to set the original couple in nakedness because SEEING EACH OTHER’S FULL NAKED BODY was important, necessary and BENEFICIAL TO THE MARRIED STATE.

When hundreds of years after the Fall God inspired Moses by the Holy Spirit to pen the account of the first Marriage, He ensured the inclusion of Genesis 2: 25, so we would all read and learn that NAKEDNESS is one of the building blocks for the construction a marriage that conforms with the one He gave in Eden.

Every profession has it’s formal form of dressing. When you see a Lawyer in his official attire you don’t ask if he’s a legal practitioner. You know without being told except if you’re a dude from the hinterlands of one of the provinces.

When you see a Police officer in his uniform, you know who he is.

The God-given covenant attire of married couples is the very best of all and it’s their nakedness. Just as Lawyers, Soldiers, Pilots, Traditional Rulers, etc, were their attires with pride, so also should spouses undress in each other’s presence with glowing pride because in undressing, you’re wearing your glorious marital regalia and paraphernalia of divinely endorsed office.

The Psalmist understood the glory, splendour and magnificence of the naked human body and that’s why he said:

“I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.” (Psalm 139:14)

Our anchor scripture shows us the attitude of the original couple towards their nakedness: THEY WERE BOTH NAKED AND WERE NOT ASHAMED!

There are many marriages today, where the Spouses don’t feel free to undress in each other’s presence. This isn’t right. Such Spouses haven’t yet gained an understanding of what their bodies are. They’re confident standing in front of their Mate when dressed up in clothes made by sinful man but feel embarrassed standing in the suit crafted by God’s holy fingers! It’s a mark of ignorance.

Your body is so glorious (if you’re born again) that the Holy Spirit has chosen to dwell in you as His temple. If the Blessed Holy Spirit dwells in your body, why on earth should you still be ashamed to bare such a magnificent edifice that has attracted divine tenancy to your Mate?

Till this moment some married couples still make love only in thick darkness because one of the Partners doesn’t want their nakedness seen. When you make love in darkness, you miss no less than 30% of the thrills of the sumptuous delights of sexual intimacy. Just imagine being invited to the White House in Washington DC and a glorious meal is set before you at 7. PM and you won’t step in the beautiful room to eat until the entire room is in pitch darkness. Well, your hosts would graciously allow you eat when you please but your enjoyment of that glorious meal will be greatly limited because there’s great pleasure in seeing the setting where you’re eating, the dishes with which you’ve been honorably served, the size of the pieces of meat and the rich appearance of the meal in the dishes. Taste isn’t everything. Your memory needs to take in and store the treats and the honour you’ve been done. But when you’re such a dull and daft soul who prefers to eat their meals in pitch darkness in the White House one thing is certain: no one will ever invite you over again because you’re an embarrassment. God is in a sense also silently embarrassed when He sees you ashamed of your nakedness. Nevertheless, He leaves you alone; believing that you will one day change when you read messages such as the one you’re reading now.
