Marriage brings every Spouse into that season of his or her life where they should be the very personification of Love. This is what it should be because we are thrice-ordained Lovers. We are created by LOVE (God), born from lovemaking of TWO COVENANT LOVERS (Parents) and called to be COVENANT LOVERS in a covenant love union that has God as Witness(Marriage). So we are Threefold Lovers. This status and position demands that you know, covet and possess all the qualities and life-changing attributes of Love.
Our anchor scripture for today shows us some of these attributes or components of love that must be in us. They’re as follows:
1) LONG PATIENCE OR LONG-SUFFERING
A true Lover possesses long patience which is more popularly known as Long-suffering. It’s the ability to patiently endure lasting suffering, offence or hardship without complaining or becoming bitter.
The presence of long-suffering in the composition of Love shows that marriage invariably involves suffering.
2) A LIFE OF KINDNESS AND KINDHEARTEDNESS
As a threefold lover who’s thrice-ordained to love, you need to embrace this attribute of God Who is ceaselessly and untiring kind. Hear what the scripture says:
“44 But I tell you, love your enemies[a] and pray for those who[b] persecute you, 45 so that you may be[c] children of your Father in heaven. For he causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward will you have? Don’t even the tax collectors do the same?”(Matthew 5:44-46)
Marriage apart, we are called to be kind-hearted.
When you are kind-hearted, you reflect the character of God Who is Love. When you have this kind of personality, your marriage will not only be good, you’ll become an enjoyment to your Spouse.
3) LOVE IS NOT EMULOUS, INSOLENT OR RASH
To be emulous is to be motivated by the spirit of rivalry and envy. Love isn’t in competition with anyone. A true Lover knows that he has a unique and imitable destiny and walks in own strides.
Love isn’t insolent: doesn’t revile, despise or disrespect others.
These attributes makes you a mature, balanced and sweet personality.
4) LOVE IS NOT PUFFED UP
True lovers are not proud. They’re instead, humble and meek.

All these qualities are freely available for you in Christ.
Get them into your life and they’ll make you a good and cherished lover to your Spouse.
