THE THRICE-ORDAINED AND THREEFOLD LOVERS: BE THE PERSONIFICATION OF LOVE (PT.2)

Scripture:
‘DOTH NOT BEHAVE ITSELF UNSEEMLY, SEEKETH NOT HER OWN, IS NOT EASILY PROVOKED, THINKETH NO EVIL’
(1 CORINTHIANS 13: 5)

IN OUR DEVOTIONAL PIECE FOR 31 JULY, 2025, we focused on the topic, THE THRICE-ORDAINED AND THREEFOLD LOVERS: BE THE PERSONIFICATION OF LOVE.

Today, we are looking at Part 2 of it.

In part 1, we saw that Spouses, are people created by LOVE(God), born from the lovemaking of TWO COVENANT LOVERS (parents) and called to be COVENANT LOVERS in a covenant union that has God as Witness(Marriage). All Spouses are therefore thrice-ordained and threefold lovers who are in their season of love and should hence be the very personification of Love.

The possibility of being the personification of Love becomes even more obvious when we remember that, as married born again Christians, we have dwelling in us, the Person of the Holy Spirit, Who is the Spirit of LOVE.

Today’s anchor scripture shows us more components of love that should be in our lives.

1) GOD-LIKE BEHAVIOUR AND CONDUCT

The Bible tells us tells us that God is LOVE(1 John 4:16).
Since we’re born of Him, our behaviour should fully reflect His’.

Throughout His life on Earth, Jesus’ behaviour was tailored after the behaviour of God. Please, read:

“Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.(John 5:19)

As a Spouse who is born again, your behaviour in marriage and outside the home should be such that God’s manner of life is fully reflected.

2) IS NOT SELFISH,
SELF-SEEKING OR SELF-CENTERED

The undoing of very many marriages is the cancerous trait called selfishness.
Our anchor scripture for today tells us that “Love seeketh not her own”. This means that Love is unselfish. It’s not after it’s own interests but is rather other- focused.

In some marriages, one spouse is so selfish and so mean that nothing would happen in the relationship except it goes as they please. This is definitely devilish because God never behaves this way. Instead His Word teaches us:

“Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.”(Philippians 2: 4)

If you’re that Spouse who almost always insist that things MUST go according to your dictates, God is calling you through this devotional piece to repent of selfishness. Put your Spouse’s interest above yours. God’s Word says:

“We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves.”(Romans 15:1)

If you’re strong, then show your strength by upholding and helping your Mate rather than being after your own interests all the time.

3) IS NOT EASILY PROVOKED

What a glorious attribute ! Love is not easily provoked!

Don’t we daily see in the world, the amazing patience and tolerance of God as He puts up with the wickedness of humanity? He is not easily provoked.

As people who are born again in Christ, we should emulate God in this also. Don’t get worked up over trivia! It’s not noble nor respectable.

Has your wife flouted your orders again? Don’t start hollering and raising hell and get the neighbours gathering to beg you to calm down. You may be right but your tempestuous reaction may not glorify God.

Whenever you are provoked, remember how God watches all the evildoers and still retains His calm. Walk in His footsteps. Don’t be EASILY provoked.

4) KEEP A PURE HEART

As you relate with your husband or wife, endeavour to keep a pure heart. It’s one of the attributes of Love.

Love thinks no evil, doesn’t hold grudges nor keep records of wrongs done to it. Harbours no hard feelings and resentments.

Sir/Ma, life is a privilege! Those who have wronged you are a blessing irrespective of what they’ve done against you. They did so because they don’t know any better.

We must all walk in the magnanimity and largeness of heart that enables us always remember that those who hurt us did so because they aren’t perfect just as we also aren’t perfect. Christ had this understanding and so asked the Father’s forgiveness for those who crucified Him saying that they knew not what they did because indeed, they didn’t.
