AS RUTH🧑🚀🧑🚀🧑🚀 FAITHFULLY SERVED NAOMI, NAOMI being a God-fearing mother-in-law🧑🦳🧑🦳🧑🦳 desired that Ruth should marry again. Our anchor scripture passage presents her instructions to Ruth on how to find her way into the heart and affection of Mr Boaz, the man she wanted her to marry.
The first thing in the instructions she gave to her is our focus this morning. And what is that thing? It’s this : ” WASH THYSELF .” And why this instruction? It is because the coming close of a man and a woman exposes their individual level of basic hygiene and personal cleanliness! These could be easily picked up by THE NOSE 👃 👃 👃 👃 👃!
Many Spouses scored highly in cleanliness when they were in courtship. But not long after they’d said “I DO” at the Altar💒💒💒💒 on the Wedding day, they forgot the importance of cleanliness in interpersonal relationships.
Long ago when I was in the Primary School, every school had a First Aid Box⛑⛑⛑ for the treatment of minor injuries that occured during school hours. Well, married couples don’t necessarily have to have a First Aid Box. What they MUST have is A FIRST LOVE-KIT that consists of the Toothbrush🪥🪥🪥, Sponge, Soap🧼🧼🧼 and Water🚿🚿🚿🛁🛁. And they don’t just have to have them for having sake, THEY NEED TO USE THEM EVERY DAY!
Marriage has made you and your Spouse ONE FLESH. This means that the BODY is a dominant part of your marriage; even though it’s also true that your hearts and souls are also involved. Since your flesh must interact very closely EVERYDAY, sparkling cleanliness🚿🪥🧼🪒 becomes A MUST! YOU MUST BOTH GIVE PRIORITY ATTENTION TO BEING CLEAN AND ODOURLESS , as much as possible.
Even in our spiritual relationship with God, physical cleanliness is also important. That’s why the Bible says to wash the body with pure water🚿💧🚿💧:
“LET US DRAW NEAR WITH A TRUE HEART IN FULL ASSURANCE OF FAITH, WITH OUR HEARTS SPRINKLED CLEAN FROM AN EVIL CONSCIENCES AND OUR BODIES WASHED IN PURE WATER .” (Hebrews 10:22; CSB)
Can you see that? In our personal fellowship with God, a clean body is important.
If God wants us to be bodily clean, how much more our Spouses who are by nature intolerant of bad breathe and repulsive bodily odours?
No matter how beautiful or handsome you may be as a husband or wife, bad body odour as a result of refusal, postponement and skipping of bathing downgrades you and reduces your worth and respectability.
In so many marriages today, KISSING is a long forgotten marital practice because one Spouse is so dirty, so sweaty, so smelly and yet won’t take corrections! This ought not to be so.
We’ve taught the use of perfumes and scents as love relationship aids. However, those products can’t perform any magic when you have refused to thoroughly bathe your body and brush your teeth EVERYDAY.
Sir/Ma, use your Toothbrush🪥🪥🪥 to brush your teeth EARLY IN THE MORNING, as you were taught in the nursery primary school 🏫🛝 🏫🎠🏫🤸⛹🛝🎠🎡; and use your Sponge, Soap🧼🧼 and Water🚿🚿🚿🚿 to give YOUR BODY a thorough scrubbing🛀🛀🛀🛀 everyday and you’ll find that your Spouse wants to come CLOSER AND CLOSER TO YOU!🫂🫂🫂💕.
