LOVEBIRDS' DEVOTIONAL

Enriching Matrimonies

THINGS THAT MAKE MARRIAGE INCREASINGLY THRILLING (PT. 2)

Scripture:
‘She is a lovely deer, a graceful doe. LET HER BREASTS INTOXICATE YOU ALL THE TIME; ALWAYS BE DRUNK ON HER LOVE.’
(PROVERBS 5: 19)

STAYING IN LOVE AND GROWING IN LOVE are powerful catalysts that make marriage sparkle and get, not only sweeter and richer in “taste”, but even inebriating and causing you to be addicted to each other; which is exactly as God intended:

“She is a lovely deer, a graceful doe. LET HER BREASTS INTOXICATE YOU _ALL THE TIME_ ; _ALWAYS_ BE DRUNK ON HER LOVE.” (Proverbs 5: 19; CEB)

Yesterday, we focused on three practices that contribute to making a Couple’s relationship grow increasingly thrilling. Today, we’re looking only one and that’s Pleasant Words:

1) PLEASANT WORDS
You want to stay in love, grow in love and to see your love affair with your spouse grow sweeter and richer by the day? One of the things you will need to do is to learn how to use your WORDS TO CREATE A JOYOUS ATMOSPHERE IN YOUR MARRIAGE! And one of the ways to do this is to speak creative and pleasant words to your Spouse as against speaking destructive, damaging and disheartening words to them.

We see much use of the tongue in speaking pleasant words in the Song of Solomon. In the following portion of scripture, the Man engages in a detailed ADMIRATION of his Spouse:

“1 How beautiful are THY FEET with shoes, O prince’s daughter! the joints of THY THIGHS are like jewels, the work of the hands of a cunning workman.

2 THY NAVEL is like a round goblet, which wanteth not liquor: THY BELLY is like an heap of wheat set about with lilies.

3 THY TWO BREASTS are like two young roes that are twins.

4 THY NECK is as a tower of ivory; THINE EYES like the fishpools in Heshbon, by the gate of Bathrabbim: THY NOSE is as the tower of Lebanon which looketh toward Damascus.

5 THINE HEAD upon thee is like Carmel, and THE HAIR OF THINE HEAD like purple; the king is held in the galleries.”(Song of Solomon 7:1-5)

How do feel just reading the verses above? These verses are to teach you to be a vocal admirer of your marriage Partner. You’ve been silent long enough. It’s time to verbalize your appreciation and admiration of the qualities you see in your Mate.

WORDS are among the most powerful things in the entire universe. God used WORDS to create the heavens and the earth. You can use pleasant words to uplift the spirit of your marriage partner, boost their self-confidence and elevate their mood again and again and again. The practice of mutual admiration is one of the things that will help both of you stay in love and grow in love; resulting in a marriage that gets fonder and more fulfilling by the day.

A lot of times your spouse has no way of knowing how much you esteem them NOW and how much they’re worth to you PRESENTLY except you voice out your thoughts about them.

In the five verses cited above, the gentleman glowingly eulogised his Dame by admiring the following: HER FEET, THIGHS, NAVEL, BELLY; HER TWO BREASTS, NECK, EYES, NOSE; HER HEAD AND HER HAIR. If he boldly admired these parts of her body in a composed Song that was made public, don’t you think that he possibly also admired other parts of her such as her buttocks, her waist, public hair, clitoris, her cheeks, temple, etc, in private songs with which he exclusively serenaded her in some strictly private setting? How about you writing a love-letter to your spouse and glowingly expressing your admiration of those parts of their body that you endlessly cherish and adore?

In Song of Solomon chapter 4, we see the admiration of the Man by the lady. So, these are Spouses who understood the power of verbalized admiration and mutually used it in their relationship.

Admiration encourages, strengthen and boosts the self image and self-confidence of your spouse.

On the other hand, insults, abuses and revilement inflict injuries and wounds that may not heal for years and that would fracture your romance and affection permanently. If you have been using your tongue negatively in your marriage, this is 2025: REPENT and pray God to forgive you, heal your tongue and grant you His grace to help you use your tongue to speak as a Lover in your marriage henceforth.
