AFTER SIX DAYS OF CREATIVE LABOUR,
GOD TOOK A BREAK. Was He tired or stressed out? Not a bit. But He rested because it’s wisdom to do so after an extensive work of making a new planet such as He had done.
In the ministry of Christ, He also at a point took the disciples with Him to a quiet place for rest and recreation(Mark 6:31)
The example of God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ cited above shows us that it’s foolish for spouses to work endlessly without a thought for going apart from time to time to refresh and to renew their relationship.
Today, many marriages are a shadow of what they used to be because the man and the wife are endlessly engrossed in their profession, business, career, ministry, etc. Of course, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with working hard. It’s imperative to do so.
Nevertheless, it’s important to walk in the footsteps of Christ and the Father Who took time to rest before continuing their work; even though they are omnipotent and tireless.
As a couple, make plans to go on personal Marriage Retreats from time to time. We see this in the relationship of the Lovers in the Song of Solomon:
“10 My beloved spake, and said unto me, Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away.
11 For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone;
12 The flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come, and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land;
13 The fig tree putteth forth her green figs, and the vines with the tender grape give a good smell. Arise, my love, my fair one, and come away.”(Song of Solomon 2:10-13)
The husband of the lady wanted them to get apart to some new place. The Winter had kept them largely in the same place for long. He was saying something like: “Now that that the Winter is past and a new beautiful season is here, let’s get out to some new and pleasant place for a change!”
A lot of times when spouses feel tired of their marriage and home life, it’s not that their mate isn’t good any more or that their union is a mistake. It’s actually Boredom that has set in. Yes. Take care of the Boredom by going on a “Time Out”, “Come Away”, “Love Retreat”, “Get Away” or whatever name you might choose to call your Retreat and you’ll find your romance not only back but stronger and sweeter than ever.
Finally, your Retreat doesn’t have to be in a far away place to be effective. Neither does it have to be in some expensive and swanky five star hotel. The important thing is to get to a place that offers you plenty of privacy, an atmosphere that ignites romance and passion; and an ambience that makes you completely relaxed and free to offer all of yourselves to each other.
Treat your marriage from time to time with Retreats. And thrill one another lavishly at each Retreat.
