IT’S ONE THING TO GET MARRIED but quite another to make a success of it.

Today, country after country is littered with broken marriages and bleeding hearts.

Many of the victims of broken marriages in these nations actually
set out into matrimony with sincere hearts “to have and to hold” each other until death did them part. But lack of understanding was their undoing!

For instance, when a man or woman is married but yet thinks they could still have extramarital affairs “since everyone is doing it”, it’s a proof that they lack understanding. Hear what the Bible says:
“BUT WHOSO COMMITTETH ADULTERY WITH A WOMAN LACKETH UNDERSTANDING: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul.”(Proverbs 6:32)

What is Understanding? It’s the ability to see things the way God sees them. It’s the ability to see things clearly with the spiritual Light shed by the revelations from the Word of God. Thus the person who has understanding is shoulder high above most and sees things differently. It’s this grace that
distinguished Abigail, the woman in our anchor scripture for today. Her husband was stupendously rich, came from a respectable tribe in Israel but lacked understanding. As a result, he used his own hands to turn the opportunity he had to become a friend and a benefactor to the future King of Israel into a means of stirring the anger and justice of God against himself, resulting in his swift death. But his Wife who lived under the same roof with him, turned the same scenario into a ladder by which she ascended and became a Queen in Israel.

Adam had Understanding and that’s why he saw Eve as the Bone of his bones and the flesh of his flesh and named her Woman. To him, Eve was his very self and he could never think any ill of her. He had no Bible but he lived out Ephesians 5:28-29:
“SO OUGHT MEN TO LOVE THEIR WIVES AS THEIR OWN BODIES. HE THAT LOVETH HIS WIFE LOVETH HIMSELF. FOR NO MAN EVER YET HATED HIS OWN FLESH; BUT NOURISHETH AND CHERISHETH IT, even as the Lord the church:” These verses give understanding. They teach us that your wife is your very flesh and it’s only natural for you to love and pamper her just the same way you love and pamper your physical body.

Nothing will ever make you hit your head against the wall as a punishment to it for not thinking straight and causing you a major loss in a business deal. Any day you do so, people will conclude that you’ve gone mad.
In the same way, it’s MADNESS for a husband to beat his wife and MADNESS for a wife be rebellious to her husband. It’s lack of understanding.

From this moment forward, let the consciousness of walking in Understanding in your relationship with your spouse dominate your mind. When you relate with each other with understanding, your home will be full of the peace of God. Like Abigail, you will wisely turn incidents that could result in a major crisis into a time for the Glory of God to descend on your Family.

Tonight, you’ll continue the assignment for yesterday. It’s important.

Just imagine that your Spouse is the President of your country. Treat them like you would treat such an important guest. Let this treatment not just be for tonight but throughout the whole of tomorrow.
