SOMETIME AGO, I READ THE STORY OF A YOUNG MAN who suffered cruel betrayal. His own friend arranged the abduction of his Fiancee, kept her in captivity for ten months, and raped her! By the time she was finally rescued, she was already pregnant. Fortunately, the evil “friend” was arrested. But the most touching part of the story is this: the young man whose Fiancee was abducted stuck to his Lady and married her! What comes to your mind after reading this story? Obviously, this is a most unusual kind of Love! This is indeed a demonstration of Agape, God’s kind of Love. It’s encouraging to know that there are still people who practice God’s kind of Love. God wants you to be one of them.
In 1984, I heard a similar, true-life story. A gentleman fell in love with a young lady and gradually began the process of marrying her. He returned from his base in the City one day to hear the most unexpected from the girl. She told him in tears that she was pregnant for another man. The man was calm. He told her not to worry. He said he would wait for her to give birth to the Baby and then, they would marry! After she delivered the baby, he came back and married her just as he promised.
In 1989, I was the guest of Christian Physician.
As we conversed, he told me of a Christian Sister who was a member of a Holiness Fellowship in the ’70s. This lady was in courtship with a Brother. Somehow, she backslid and was in the world for quite sometime; living a wild life. All that time, her Fiance remained in Christ. God never gave up on her. He restored her back to the Faith. When the Brother heard of her return to Christ, he renewed his relationship with her, not minding all the immorality she went into. They got married and became husband and wife.
The Love demonstrated by these three men is what’s called TRUE LOVE. This is the God-kind of Love spouses are called to practice in marriage EVERYDAY. This kind of Love demonstrates MATURITY AND LARGENESS OF HEART.
(1) The first man recognized that his Fiancee was abducted against her will.
(2)The second man accepted the repentance of his lady and saw her pregnancy as an outcome of human frailty! After all, who is perfect? The very best of men is imperfect and has secret flaws.
(3) The last man saw the backsliding of his Fiancee as the handiwork of that evil one: Satan. Since God had seen fit to restore her to Grace and he still loved her, he went on and married her.
Yes, Romance, Affection and Sexual Intimacy are important in marriage but by all means grow up in your understanding of Love and Marriage and
get to the point of being able to walk constantly in AGAPE, GOD’S KIND OF LOVE. It’s the Unusual Kind of Love. It’s the Fervent Love that covers a multitude of sins!(1 Peter 4:8)
The Unusual Kind Love is what made God give His Son Jesus Christ, to die for the Sins of the whole the world. It’s what will enable you to love your mate when they’re most undeserving of it. It’s what will energize you to undertake the impossible for the good of your Mate.
Truly Romance, Affection and Sexual Intimacy are important to your marriage but Agape, God’s kind of Love supercedes them.
Purpose to practice it in your marriage always from now forward.
