🪘🎸🧡LIKE NOAH, DON’T ARGUE—JUST OBEY
When God wanted to end the old world and start a new one, He gave Noah instructions on building an Ark. Noah had never seen such a huge waterborne edifice before, let alone built one.
God dictated the measurements and other specifications to him. Most importantly, He told him to use gopher wood for the job. Noah didn’t say, “Lord, but why gopher wood when there are other good woods such as oak, teak, mahogany, and iroko that are suitable?” Noah didn’t argue with God. He simply obeyed, and a solid and magnificent Ark was the end product.
🪘🎸🧡GOD IS NOT AN EXPLAINER
At the time God commissioned him to build the Ark, there were details about the impending flood that Noah did not know. For instance, Noah had no idea that the rain was going to last 40 days and 40 nights. Neither could he, in his wildest imagination, have thought that the Ark was going to stay on the water continuously for 371 days! For that lengthy period of time, any other wood would have begun to soak up water or rot. But not gopher wood!
Similarly, there are details regarding the future of your marriage that you and your mate simply have no idea about. But those details are why God gave you each of the commands contained in the Bible for your marriage. It is by keeping those commands and instructions that your marriage will not “rot or soak up water” and drown on the high seas of life.
🪘🎸🧡WHY DID GOD CHOOSE GOPHER WOOD?
God picked gopher wood because of its suitability for the purpose of the Ark. Gopher wood is strong, water-resistant, waterproof, decay-proof, buoyant, temperature-proof, insect-repellent, and rainproof. Suppose Noah had been stubborn and refused to use God’s specified wood, using another wood of his own fancy instead? He and his family would have perished in the flood, as the Ark built with his own choice of wood would have weakened and collapsed.
🪘🎸🧡GOD’S SPECIFICATIONS FOR MARRIED LIFE ARE FOR YOUR GOOD
Dear wife, submission to your husband as commanded in Scripture isn’t meant to turn you into a servant girl, as many wives suspect. It is for your good as a woman and a wife. It gives you a platform to showcase the attributes of your good character that will endear you to your husband and keep you in the center of his heart. The command of submission offers you opportunities to improve and increase your matrimonial “CV” as a wife, making you last in the favor of your husband—just as Daniel lasted in the governments of Babylon as a result of his impeccable and unmatched public service “CV.”

Do you remember Queen Vashti? She was a stunning beauty with amazing vital statistics, shape, poise, and uncommon elegance. But you know that she didn’t last, right? She spent only three years as a queen on a throne she could have occupied for a lifetime. One evening’s insubordination brought her down permanently. Therefore, understand that submission to your husband is your key to reigning as a queen, wife, and mother for life!
And husbands, the command to love your wife supremely is not aimed at weakening your natural image as a man. God gave your wife a nature that responds to love. The deeper and more sacrificial your love, the more she is wowed and wooed to adore you! So, loving her supremely helps her be devoted to you, just as the Church is completely devoted to Christ because of His supreme love by which He died for its sins.
🪘🎸🧡CONTINUAL SEX EXCEPT DURING FASTS
Finally, the command to practice continual sexual intimacy in marriage, as demanded by 1 Corinthians 7:5, isn’t meant to make you worldly or carnal. It is given by divine wisdom to undergird and shield your spiritual life and pilgrimage (1 Corinthians 7:2; 1 Peter 2:11). Furthermore, it is meant to renew, reinvigorate, and reinforce your “one flesh” bond as a couple and to help your marriage grow.
What rain is to plants, trees, and vegetation in general, sexual intimacy is to your marriage. It is the rain of your marriage! It freshens your union and makes it grow from strength to strength.

Just as Noah’s use of gopher wood and his faithful adherence to all the other details of God’s instructions kept the Ark afloat and Noah’s family safe for 371 days of the flood, so also will your obedience to every one of the instructions of God on marriage keep your union fresh, strong, and growing until death finally separates you.
