YOUR HANDS, COVENANT INSTRUMENTS OF LOVE IN MARRIAGE

Scripture:
‘THEN THE LORD PUT FORTH HIS HAND, AND TOUCHED MY MOUTH. AND THE LORD SAID UNTO ME, BEHOLD I HAVE PUT MY WORDS IN THY MOUTH.’
(JEREMIAH 1:9)

I WAS ONLY TEN BUT I CAN STILL remember what happened. Our neighbours’ wife picked up a wooden stool and hit her husband on the head. As would be expected, the blood flowed.

There are marriages where the spouses exchange blows; they fight raw!

Not too long ago, there was an online news report of a couple who killed each other. The wife sneaked stealthily to her sleeping husband, with a knife in hand and swiftly cut off his male organ. The man upon waking up took a cutlass and in his wrath matcheted her. The two of them died right in their home in the pool of their own blood.

Spouses, please listen.

Your hands are not weapons for attacking and destroying each other.

God Who created us in His image and likeness also has hands.

In our anchor scripture for today, we see how God used His hand to touch the mouth of Jeremiah and by that one touch put His Holy Word in His mouth. He put something new and precious into Jeremiah, and by that act transformed his life. That’s an example of what hands are meant for: to bless, to increase, to transform.

God gave you hands to use in helping, comforting, embracing, hugging, caressing, stimulating and loving each other in a hundred and more ways. But never for inflicting hurt, pains and injuries on each other; and marking one another’s body with scars.

In the Ministry of Christ while He was on planet Earth, His hands were instruments of love, blessings, healing and life transformation.

He touched a leper and healed him(Mark 1:41)

In multiplying the few loaves and fishes to feed thousands, He first held the few loaves and fishes in his HANDS, then gave thanks and they were multiplied.

When the Apostles consecrated the first Deacons, they laid HANDS upon them.

Jesus has commissioned us to lay hands on the sick for their recovery and healing(Mark 16:18)

These are positive usage of hands in spiritual life

It’s important for you as a husband or wife to understand that in marriage, your hands are no longer ordinary. They’re instruments for demonstrating and expressing the love of God to your marriage partner in diverse ways Everyday.

With those hands, you touch and explore the inner recesses of your Spouse’s beautiful/handsome body during the hours of love and intimacy. It only amount to treachery and betrayal to use those same hands to strike, hit or punch the same man or woman.

And it becomes even more treacherous, when you use those covenant hands to touch another man or woman in the act of infidelity; no matter how slightly and no matter your reasons.

The Patriarch Job covenanted with his eyes not to look at young women. Spouses will also do well to voluntarily covenant with their hands never to use them to do evil to their marriage partner.

Always remember that your hands are instruments of love and that’s it’s an abomination and crying shame for you to use them to fight, slap, hit or beat your marriage partner.

The last time you did should be the last.
