THE STORMS OF LIFE SPARE no one. They come to the saintly as well to the ungodly; to the filthy as well to the holy.

Today, we are looking at how Mr and Mrs Job faced the fiery storms that sought to completely destroy them. The story of the trials that came upon Mr and Mrs Job shows that the storms of life don’t come without God’s knowledge and permission. It also shows that God sets a limit on how far the trials will go.

The storms that came upon Mr and Mrs Job were in two phases. In the first phase, their TEN precious children all died in one day! Think about that for a while. TEN CHILDREN dead in one day! For a married couple, that’s tragedy at it’s worst. But it didn’t stop there. That same day, all the wealth of Job listed in Job Chapter 1:3 were mysteriously and completely wiped out!

On that day, Job had to quickly arrange for the burial of ten grown children who woke up in the morning healthy but were suddenly crushed to death by collapsed walls.

In the face of the horrific tragedies recounted in the foregoing paragraphs, Mr and Mrs Job stayed strong. They had suddenly become poor and childless but they continued to serve and worship God.
If you think your trials are too heavy consider what Job and his wife went through and take courage.

While the couple was still trying to adjust to their new life and all it’s handicaps, the second storm suddenly started. This time, a strange disease came upon Mr Job. Bereft of children and wealth, at least, they still had their Health and Marriage to enjoy. They could still sit close to each other, cuddle up on the bed and do all those things that belonged to them by the Covenant of Marriage. But the second storm abruptly stopped all that. Let’s see what the Bible says about Job at this time:

“7 So went Satan forth from the presence of the Lord, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot unto his crown.

8 And he took him a potsherd to scrape himself withal; and he sat down among the ashes.

9 Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die.”(Job 2: 7-9)

Job now had SORE BOILS all over his body. He couldn’t sleep on the bed any longer. He had to be where he would scrap himself with a potsherd. A Multi Billionaire was suddenly reduced to an afflicted man who had to sit outdoors in the midst of ashes.
The wife looked at the whole situation and told her husband of many years to curse God and die! Why? Because to her Death was better for Job than such a miserable and shameful existence. Now, don’t blame the poor woman; we’re never to play the role of the Great Judge in any one’s life.

Thankfully, Job despite the excruciating pains and mental agony, chose not to rebel against God. His faith in God was unshakable and his submission to Him was unwavering! And I think this is our greatest heritage as we read the story of Job.

As earlier hinted, God sets a limit on the extent of whatever storm he permits us to face. And so after some, the Lord brought the fiery storms that raged against Job to an end!

Please, patiently read the following verses to see how it all turned out for Mr Job as he stood firm in his allegiance to God to the very end:

“12 So the Lord blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she asses.

13 He had also seven sons and three daughters.

14 And he called the name of the first, Jemima; and the name of the second, Kezia; and the name of the third, Kerenhappuch.

15 And in all the land were no women found so fair as the daughters of Job: and their father gave them inheritance among their brethren.

16 After this lived Job an hundred and forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons’ sons, even four generations.

17 So Job died, being old and full of days.” (Job 42: 12-17)
