🌹🪘🍂🤎In marriage, one of the things you must never become comfortable neglecting is your outward appearance.
When God presented Eve to Adam, what elicited his excitement wasn’t the feel of Eve’s skin to the touch, because he didn’t touch her. What stirred his thrilled response was how she looked—her outward appearance. His eyes took in her physique, poise, hair and her queenly, feminine demeanor, and he couldn’t help but voice out his charmed elation!
🌹🪘🍂🤎DON’T USE THE MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE
Don’t use the marriage certificate and your wedding ring as reasons to be careless with your outward appearance.
And please note that outward appearance goes well beyond your top wear. It entails every layer of clothing you put on, as well as your entire skin surface, and very importantly, the state of your fingernails. When you’re well dressed but your fingernails are full of dark dirt, it easily gives you away as basically dirty.
🌹🪘🍂🤎OUTWARD APPEARANCE IS A GIFT OF GOD
Why do you think God allowed the following to be recorded in Scripture concerning Rebecca, Sarah, David and the daughters of Job respectively?
“And the damsel was very fair to look upon” (Genesis 24:16a)
“And it came to pass, that, when Abram was come into Egypt, the Egyptians beheld the woman, that she was very fair.” (Genesis 12:14)
“When the Philistine looked around and saw David, he derided and disparaged him because he was [just] a young man, with a ruddy complexion, and a handsome appearance.” (1 Samuel 17:42; AMP)
“And in all the land were no women found so fair as the daughters of Job” (Job 42:15a).
God had these recorded in His Word because outward appearance counts for something. It’s certainly not everything, but it definitely isn’t nothing! It’s significant. It is a herald that announces you! It could draw favour and goodwill towards you. It almost made the eldest son of Jesse, Eliab, king but for God’s intervention (1 Samuel 16:6-7). So, mind your outward appearance in marriage.
🌹🪘🍂🤎WHEN A LADY APPROACHED A MAN
When Naomi counseled Ruth to take the rather unusual step of approaching Mr. Boaz in the threshing floor at night, she didn’t instruct her to pray very well before setting off. She was down-to-earth. In fact, she found only one thing most important for that preliminary, subtle move—and it was Ruth’s outward appearance: her looks and smell. Please read:
“Wash thyself therefore, and anoint thee, and put thy raiment upon thee, and get thee down to the floor” (Ruth 3:3a).
“You should bathe, put on some perfume, wear nice clothes, and then go down to the threshing floor.” (Ruth 3:3a; CEB)
🌹🪘🍂🤎MALE AND FEMALE CREATED HE THEM
The point in all this is that, in the extremely close relationship of a man and a woman called marriage, outward appearance always counts for something. And that something is so significant that you dare not overlook it at any point in your lifelong journey as husband and wife. Always mind how you look, how you smell, how you feel to the touch, and how you taste. Yes, how you TASTE!
🌹🪘🍂🤎MAMA SARAH WAS STUNNING AT 75!
When a severe famine drove Abraham and his family from Canaan to Egypt, he was 85 and his beloved wife, Sarah, was 75. This is the age at which most couples are grandparents, sit in rocking chairs and wear the glorious halo of gray hairs. But at 75, Mama Sarah was still like a beauty pageant contestant: elegant, attractive, charming, and consciously mindful of her body and outward appearance. She maintained her skin, her hair, wore the right clothes and was colour-match conscious. The result? Stunning looks that turned heads everywhere she and her husband went.
Now, remember that at this time, Sarah was going through her toughest season in life: she was battling years of barrenness and was already in menopause. But she refused to let her adverse situation become a hunch on her back that altered her God-given poise and natural elegance. She refused to let the harsh challenges she faced force her to choose ashes for beauty. Instead, she boldly chose beauty—both inward and outward! She lived a life in which good body image and attractive looks were prioritized and given their rightful place. And she matched them with hearty submission to her husband. Is it any wonder that Father Abraham loved her dearly and had no concubine for as long as she was in his life?
🌹🪘🍂🤎CONCLUSION
For as long as your marriage lasts, your outward appearance will continue to matter. Your spouse needs to see you looking attractive, admirable, desirable and irresistible round the clock. So invest in looking knockout, stunning and gorgeous for your spouse—even when there’s no celebration.🤎
