ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL LOVE stories in the Bible is the account of the wondrous love of Jacob for Rachael.
From the moment he fell in love with Rachael, there was no looking back. He was never at any point distracted by any other woman. Neither did his love for her suffer a decline. Instead, it kept soaring higher and higher and intensifying with each passing day! Yes, for seven long and grueling years he laboured for Mr. Laban, his future Father-in-law but those seven years seemed to him like a few days, all because of the depth of his love for Rachel.
Even when the culture and traditions of men twisted his good intentions of being monogamous like his father Isaac and his grandfather Abraham, turning him into a polygamist, his love for Rachael never waned. His heart was steadfast and fixed on one lady: Rachel.
Jacob is an example of what a true Lover is. True Lovers are Spouse Devotees. They are Spouse-Addicts. They are enthusiastically given to loving their Spouse. They don’t just love their Mate because God commands it, they do so because it’s their delight, their thrilling hobby and their energizing preoccupation.
They don’t avoid infidelity or extramarital affairs just because God forbids it. No. They have nothing to do with it because they know that their Spouse has everything one could find in a million women or men and so much more! So, why foolishly go outside when there’s more than enough in their Partner?
Love Devotees continually see their Spouse through invisible Binoculars of Romance! It isn’t that they worship their Spouses. No. They are simply voluntarily enchanted with the person of their husband or wife. Nothing succeeds in diminishing the robust size of their esteem, respect and love for their Beloved; not even their Beloved’s shortcomings. This is just as barrenness couldn’t dissuade Jacob from loving Rechael less. Even though Leah was bearing children and Rachel wasn’t yet, he openly loved Rachel more than he loved Leah!
That’s how Lovers behave: they give their Heartthrob preferential treatment. They just can’t help it.
True married Lovers, are simply intoxicated with the person of their Spouse just as God commands (Prov.5:19). They are happy “Fans” of their Mate, while their Mate is their Love Superstar!
Dear Husband/Wife, is your Spouse your Love Superstar or has someone else stolen your affection? If somehow, someone else has crept into your affection, please quickly REPENT before it graduates into full-blown Adultery.
It’s not just enough to be married. You and your Spouse need to go higher in the Love Life. You need to become Love Devotees who are drunk with each other and lost in each other’s love just as our anchor scriptures tell us (Proverbs 5:19). Yes, you need to become one another’s Love And Romance Superstar!
