Enriching Matrimonies

A LESSON FROM UK’ANUKPŌDA

Scripture:
‘LET HIM KISS ME WITH THE KISSES OF HIS MOUTH: FOR THY LOVE IS BETTER THAN WINE.’
(SONG OF SOLOMON 1:2)

🍎🍊Romance is a state of intense love between a husband and wife. This state is evidenced by peace between the spouses and by an open, mutual display of affection, passion, togetherness, and fondness toward each other.

🍎🍊THE NATURE OF ROMANTIC SPOUSES

Romantic spouses are close to each other. They are virtually inseparable and cannot endure one another’s absence for long. At the beginning of a marriage, romance is automatic. After a while, however, you must consciously and diligently cultivate it daily until it becomes a lifestyle that stays with both of you.

🍎🍊A LESSON FROM UK’ANUKPŌDA
I remember traveling and arriving at Uk’anukpōda, Kogi State, in the Middle Belt region of Nigeria sometime in the ’90s. As I got out of the cab at that lonely junction, I sighted an older couple I had met a few times. What caught my attention was the fact that the wife lay her head on her husband’s lap to get some sleep—right under the open sky and in a public space!

Do you think they took that liberty simply because she needed a nap? No. It was their marital habit. They had grown in love to the point that displaying their affection openly was no big deal.

🍎🍊NURTURING YOUR UNION
It was good that you fell in love with your mate and got married. Now that you are wed, it is expedient that you stay in love and grow in love. This happens as you deliberately, consciously, and enthusiastically cultivate your love daily.

Matrimonial love is comparable to a young, tender, and beautiful flower in an earthen vase. You must faithfully water it twice daily for it to grow luxuriantly. In like manner, you and your spouse need to nourish your relationship by performing those acts of love and affection that make marriages grow richer, sweeter, and fonder.
