GOD’S WORD TRANSFORMS BEDROOMS (PT. 5)

Scripture:
‘LET THE HUSBAND RENDER UNTO THE WIFE DUE BENEVOLENCE: AND LIKEWISE ALSO THE WIFE UNTO THE HUSBAND.’
(1 CORINTHIANS 7:3)

🧡💚🩵🤎Today, we shall, by God’s grace, look at one more Scripture(1 Corinthians 7:3) that will boost your sex drive to a new level and make it pulsate with fresh energy like a brand-new engine.

🧡💚🩵🤎SEXUAL INTIMACY: A DUTY
According to our anchor Scripture, sexual intimacy in marriage is not an elective. An elective is something that is optional, something you choose by personal preference. In marriage, sexual intercourse is not an elective.

🇺🇲Our anchor verse makes it clear that, in marriage, sexual intimacy is compulsory. It was, and it is, commanded by the Lord.

🧡💚🩵🤎LONG AGO IN EDEN
Do you remember when God blessed the first couple long ago in the Garden of Eden? He first pronounced the blessings before going on to announce their duties, foremost of which is sexual intercourse. Please read carefully and note that He first blessed them before proceeding to assign their compulsory duties:

“And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.” (Genesis 1:28).

🇳🇬So, right from the very beginning, sexual intimacy in marriage—represented by God’s words, “Be fruitful and multiply”—was a divinely assigned obligation, duty, responsibility, and commitment. And divinely given obligations, duties, responsibilities, and commitments are to be faithfully, diligently, and fully fulfilled. They are never to be shirked or carelessly left unfulfilled.

🇬🇭Going by the word “render” in our anchor Scripture, sexual intimacy is a debt you and your spouse owe each other and that you must keep paying until death separates you. Thankfully, it is unlike financial debts, which are burdensome. It is instead a pleasant and delightful debt.

🧡💚🩵🤎A LOOK AT OUR ATTITUDE TO OTHER OBLIGATIONS
What makes you strive to be punctual to work every day? What makes the transporter wake up before dawn and hit the road, even though a part of him still longs to linger longer in bed? What makes the school principal go to the office early in the morning and sometimes stay until late in the evening? One thing makes them all work so hard and go the extra mile: a strong sense of duty and commitment. They all know what their job means to those they serve, as well as the negative impact that negligence of duty on their part will cause.

🇹🇱Unfortunately, many spouses do not see sexual intimacy as an obligation they owe their mate, let alone think of developing a strong and avowed commitment to serve them impeccably as a sexual services provider (SSP). If you are one of those spouses who never knew that sexual intimacy is a matrimonial duty, today you have known, by God’s grace.

🧡💚🩵🤎SIR/MA, YOU’RE A SEXUAL SERVICES PROVIDER
Dear spouse, our anchor Scripture indirectly designates you as a divinely appointed sexual services provider assigned to your husband or wife. This means that, for you, sexual intimacy with your spouse is more than having fun. Your marriage bed is a duty post, a workstation, and a watchtower. And God requires you to be totally committed at this duty post, just as you are committed to your roles in the church, at your office, in your business, etc.

🧡💚🩵🤎RECOGNITION OF A HAPPY PRIVILEGE
What makes a nursing mother breastfeed her baby with joy, change its diapers with a smile, and clean its vomit without seeing it as nauseating? It is much more than love. It is the recognition of the fact that it is her happy duty, privilege, and responsibility. After all, not all women are mothers.

🇺🇬She never feels that her baby owes her gratitude or gifts. She does not see herself as doing her baby a favour by nursing it either.

🇬🇧Similarly, spouses should see sexual intimacy as a duty they are privileged to render to their spouse in marriage.

🇪🇺Just as a nursing mother boldly brings out her breasts to feed her crying baby without minding the comments or views of those who are watching, so also should spouses recognise sexual intercourse as a duty they owe their marriage partner and boldly offer it without thinking of what popular opinion in the community or media says about how many times a month the average couple has sex.

🇬🇭You certainly do not want to be an average spouse, right? So, stop trying to do what the visionless average folks are doing. Be a pacesetter couple. Choose to be matrimonial trailblazers! But let all you do be within the boundaries of holiness and righteousness.

🧡💚🩵🤎CONCLUSION: THE SIN ANGLE
As a child, one of the things I learnt in catechism was the sin of omission.

🇬🇧Very many times, we think of sin in terms of bad deeds committed. But very grievous, also, are the sins of omitting duties that we ought to do. Exactly what are we saying here? It is this:

🇬🇼If your spouse is not asking for sexual intimacy, take it to them. Exactly! That is what our anchor Scripture is saying. It does not tell you merely to respond to your mate’s request for sex. It tells you:

“Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband.” (1 Corinthians 7:3).

🇳🇬Do not sit idle, waiting for your spouse to come cap-in-hand, so to say, begging for it. Remember the words of Christ that came through Apostle Paul:

“And to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.” (Acts 20:35b).

🇺🇸Love does not play “Lord,” waiting for the needy to ask. Love takes the initiative to give. That is how God gave us His Son: without us asking.

So, wake up, spouses!🧡🤎
