🤎🩷🧡🍉Today, we shall be looking at a pair of divine commandments that will lead to a successful exploration of your marriage, if only both of you can accept them, embrace them, and give them eager, zealous, and consistent obedience. We find these two commandments in St. Paul’s Epistle to the Ephesians:
“22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.
24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it” (Ephesians 5:22–25).
🍉In this portion of Scripture, wives are commanded to submit to their husbands, and husbands are commanded to love their wives.
🤎🩷🧡🍉SUBMISSION AND SUPREME LOVE
In marriage, God’s will is that wives be submissive to their husbands in EVERYTHING, just exactly as they are submissive to Him, their Creator. And He commands husbands to love their wives SUPREMELY, to the extent of laying down their lives for them when necessary, just as Christ loved the Church and died on the cross for its redemption.
🤎🩷🧡🍉OBEY THE COMMANDER
Spouses need to understand that it is not their mate who gave these commandments. Therefore, their obedience or otherwise is not ultimately to their marriage partner but to the Lord.
🤎🩷🧡🍉HERE ARE SOME SECRETS
Many wives see the command to submit to their husbands as difficult. Similarly, many husbands see the divine demand to love their wives as Christ loves the Church as “too high.”
🤎Today, I’ll give you some secrets for defeating the devil’s lies that it is difficult to submit to your husband in everything or to love your wife supremely. Please, pay close attention.
🤎🩷🧡🍉LOOK BEYOND THE DEMANDS
Learn to look beyond the demands of the commandments and focus on the tremendous gains that will accrue from obeying them! This is the mindset that enabled Christ to brave crucifixion. Please read:
“Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; WHO FOR THE JOY THAT WAS SET BEFORE HIM ENDURED THE CROSS, DESPISING THE SHAME, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God” (Hebrews 12:2).
🩷Christ looked beyond the torture and shame of crucifixion. His eyes were, instead, on the glory of bringing many souls to the Father.
🧡Once spouses have this same mindset, wives will become eager to submit to their husbands, and husbands will become thrilled to love their wives supremely, knowing that it leads to a better and sweeter union.
🍉Many times, you’ll need to exercise a measure of heroism, courage, and altruistic love to be able to relate to your spouse selflessly. And as you do, you break the backbone of disobedience.
🤎🩷🧡🍉LEARN FROM THE ASTRONAUT
Just as the astronaut ventures into space, risking his life because he believes in advancing the frontiers of human civilization and discovering uncharted territories, so also should spouses venture into obeying God’s commands to them in marriage.
🤎And as astronauts have increased our knowledge of the vastness of the universe through their intrepidity, adventurousness, and frontier mentality, so also will your uncommon submission to your husband or your supreme love for your wife exponentially increase and multiply the beauty, peace, serenity, bliss, joy, and romance in your marriage.
🤎🩷🧡🍉PICK UP THE CHALLENGE
As husbands and wives, our models in marriage are Christ and the Church.
🩷Never think that it was cheap or easy for Christ to come to earth, become a human foetus in a woman’s womb, and be confined therein for nine months; be born in a manger, grow up to full manhood, and then die a disgraceful and shameful death on the cross in broad daylight. But His love and commitment were so strong that He pushed aside thoughts of the cost and did all that for us. He wasn’t forced; He did it all voluntarily.
🧡And the Church has been following Christ through thousands of years of hatred and persecution from the world, not because it is easy but because it loves Him. And believers follow Him voluntarily and joyfully.
🍉So also should spouses bear a strong love for God and for each other and thereby venture forth to perform brave and sacrificial acts of love for one another.
🤎Yes, be eager and adventurous to obey all that God commands you to do in marriage. And as you both do, you’ll reap an extraordinarily glorious union filled with extraordinary harmony, passion, love, sexual satisfaction, and every other matrimonial possibility.
🤎🩷🧡🍉CONCLUSION
It is childishness to believe that whatever is difficult is a punishment of some sort and that we ought to recoil from it.
🩷Always have it at the back of your mind that submission to your husband will sometimes be unacceptable to your human flesh, and that prejudice and wrong judgments may arise; but you can nonetheless gallantly obey God, be a blessing to your husband, and bring glory to God.
🧡The same thing goes for husbands: don’t let laziness make you choose to love your wife only in minor matters. Be bold enough to step out and perform acts that, though costly to your flesh or pocket, will bless your wife, put a song of joy in her heart, and bring honour to God.
🍉These things may not be easy, but they are possible.
