COVENANT MARRIED LOVERS

Scripture:
‘BEAR YE ONE ANOTHER’S BURDENS, AND SO FULFILL THE LAW OF CHRIST.’
(GALATIANS 6:2)

🤎🩷🧡In 1974, a team of officials representing WAEC (West African Examinations Council) came to our school for assessment.

🍒Our school had been a Teachers’ Training College (TTC) from its inception, but with the set of new students admitted in 1970, the school became a secondary school, and the Teachers’ Training or Grade II curriculum was going to be gradually phased out.

🤎🩷🧡THE FETISH PRINCIPAL
Unfortunately, when the accreditation team arrived, our school principal was strangely absent from town.

🍓This was a long-awaited visit, but, alas, the head of the school wasn’t present to receive and host the august team.

🍋‍🟩Long story short, the team found our school unfit for accreditation to write the WASCE (West African School Certificate Examination). Consequently, the entire student population was devastated, shocked, and dismayed.

🍌One disturbing question hung in the air in those gloomy days: “What becomes the fate of the school?”

🍑But we all waited with bated breath for the principal, a very fetish man, to return. And he finally did.

🤎🩷🧡THE RINGING OF THE BELL
Quite strangely, he walked into the school compound at night, at about 8:00 p.m., and began ringing the school bell in apparent excitement.

🥭He walked as he rang the bell, and, of course, we all followed him. When he finally halted and ceased clanging the bell, one of the senior students asked him about the disqualification of our school from writing the WASCE.

🍇His response was most unexpectedly ominous. He said, “What personal commitment have I if the school is disqualified?”

🌽Those words were like the explosion of the atomic bomb in Hiroshima on August 6, 1945—they echoed and reverberated throughout the whole school, even though he used no microphone or public-address equipment.

🍂It’s well over 50 years already, but many of us still remember those words of indifference and nonchalance towards the plight of the 72 final-year students who would have to find other schools in which to write an examination they’d been dreaming of and preparing to write for five years!

🍁Without meaning to be judgmental, I can say that even though that principal, a physically tall man, had the academic qualifications for his post, he hadn’t the heart for the job.

🤎🩷🧡NOT YOUR SIZE, NOT YOUR QUALIFICATIONS…
Similarly, in marriage, it’s not your academic qualifications, size, religious position, or even wealth that guarantees success, but the positive disposition of your heart and your unalloyed commitment to the welfare, happiness, joy, well-being, and fulfilment of your mate that counts.

🤎🩷🧡BE CAREFUL WITH YOUR WORDS
Consider the grim words of that principal that night: “What personal commitment have I if the school is disqualified?”

🪵It showed apathy, detachment, and unconcern towards the harrowing pain and confusion of his final-year students.

🪴In marriage, when your mate comes home emotionally bruised and bleeding because of rejection, disqualification, or scathing and embarrassing remarks from their boss, don’t add to their injury by talking recklessly like that fetish school principal.

🤎🩷🧡A COVENANT RELATIONSHIP
Unlike an educational institution, where the head is there to earn a living, marriage is a covenant union where the partners are one flesh and are duty-bound to look out for each other’s well-being, growth, and happiness.

🤎🩷🧡CONCLUSION
It’s your personal concern, responsibility, and obligation to see to it that your spouse is not down, miserable, hopeless, or despairing.

🌾When they are, take it upon yourself, without their asking, to help them up and out. The Bible says:

“Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.” (Galatians 6:2)

🌅Don’t let apathy, indifference, and other such unloving traits be part of your life as a husband or wife.

🌋Don’t be like the principal who infamously said, “What personal commitment have I if the school is disqualified?”

🌈Instead, be always totally committed to the joy, happiness, and fulfilment of one another.

🤎That’s what it means to be covenant married lovers.🩷🧡
