LOVEBIRDS' DEVOTIONAL

Enriching Matrimonies

DEAD FLIES!(PT. 4): THE FLY CALLED “WRATH”.

Scripture:
‘DEAD FLIES CAUSE THE OINTMENT OF THE APOTHECARY TO SEND FORTH A STINKING SAVOR: SO DOTH A LITTLE FOLLY HIM THAT IS IN REPUTATION FOR WISDOM AND HONOUR.’
(ECCLESIASTES 10:1)

🐿️🪶🦫One of the things the devil has used to cheaply remove some people from their beautiful seats of honour in marriage and the glorious future that awaited them therein is WRATH.

🥭 Wrath normally begins as Anger.

🍒It is natural to get angry. Anger is basically a response that indicates that you don’t like a thing, a situation, etc.

🧀However, the Bible lets us know that even though anger is a legitimate and natural human emotional response, we must guard against allowing it to lead us into sin. And that’s why it says:

“Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath” (Ephesians 4:26).

🐿️🪶🦫BEWARE OF WRATH!
In the Book of James, God clearly warns us against the higher form of anger called WRATH.

“Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God” (James 1:19–20).

🍇In other words, when anger grows to the proportion of wrath, it is already dangerous, and there is never any justification whatsoever for it. Wrath never accomplishes anything good, beneficial, or worthwhile. It therefore can never fulfil the righteousness of God.

🐿️🪶🦫TWO GUESTS IN A HOTEL ROOM
After the privilege of ministering on the subject of MARRIAGE at a conference, a fellow minister and I withdrew to the hotel where we were lodged.

🍎From my fellow minister, I heard a story that I haven’t forgotten to this day.

☘️He told me of two pastors, men personally known to him, who were respectively refused sexual intimacy by their wives. They each left home in a rage to satisfy their urges elsewhere, only to become infected with the dreaded and incurable HIV/AIDS.

🥧They were probably so badly blinded by wrath that they forgot the several Scriptures that warn us about the dangers of looking back at the old life of sin:

“Remember Lot’s wife” (Luke 17:32).

“But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt” (Genesis 19:26).

“And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God” (Luke 9:62).

🐿️🪶🦫A WOMAN WRATHFULLY LEFT HER MATRIMONIAL HOME
At the end of a three-day marriage seminar in a church, I was getting set to leave when I heard a knock on the door of the church guest room where I was lodged. A lady wanted to see me. What was her problem?

🌽As Nigerians put it, her problem started “like play, like play,” meaning that it started so simply that no one could have expected any serious outcome.

🍌Her husband had touched her gently and romantically on the waist. She responded by giving him a strong push that landed him right on the floor in a severe fall.

🍐Stunned at his wife’s rather wild and violent response to his romantic act of touching her waist, he said to her, “You mean you pushed me like this just because I simply touched your waist?”

🥥Instead of feeling penitent or pitying her husband for the hard fall which she had mindlessly occasioned, she remained adamant and replied, “Yes, I did!” There was no sign of remorse. She acted as if she was right.

🥒The husband then told her, “Okay. Now, pack all your things and leave my house!”

🫘Once again, she blundered. Instead of recognising her fault, falling on her knees, and apologising, she began packing her things. After packing, she moved out of her husband’s house and returned to her parents.

🍓Asked why she had returned home, she told her parents what had happened. She was told point-blank that she was completely at fault and should go back to her husband.

🍉She returned, but her husband told her that the marriage was over.

🍑She began begging people to help her entreat him, but all the entreaties fell on deaf ears. It was at this point that she frantically came to see me.

🍋‍🟩What could I do? I was a total stranger in the town, and had no relationship whatsoever with her husband. So, what could I leverage on?

🍒And what should irritate a wife about her own husband touching her waist that she would push him so hard that he would completely lose his balance and land helplessly on the floor, if not deep disrespect?

🐿️🪶🦫CONCLUSION
Constantly watch your heart!

🍠Don’t harbour anger in your spirit let alone allowing it degenerate to wrath. The Bible says that it is only fools who store up anger in their hearts:

“Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools” (Ecclesiastes 7:9).

🥜Don’t give anger the licence or permission to make your heart its warehouse.

🍯Follow what the Bible says:
“19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.”(James 1:19-20)
Don’t let wrath destroy your precious covenant relationship with your God-given spouse.🐿️🪶
