GOOD NEWS FOR WEEPING SPOUSES

Scripture:
‘FOR THOU, O GOD, HAST PROVED US: THOU HAST TRIED US, AS SILVER IS TRIED.’
(PSALM 66: 10)

💕🤎🧡🪘When the tragedies that befell Mr. and Mrs. Job occurred, resulting in the loss of their enormous wealth and the death of their ten children, all in one day, the ears of many tingled!
Not long after, Mr. Job himself was suddenly struck down with a strange disease that covered his entire body with boils, and he was forced to sit in ashes and scrape his body with a piece of broken pottery. Many were left speechless.

💕🤎🧡🪘ARE YOUR HEARTS HEAVY?
Perhaps there is a couple reading this devotional piece this morning whose hearts are heavy with a million unanswered questions over what has happened to them — things they simply do not understand — despite the fact that they serve God and worship Him in spirit and in truth.
Dearly beloved, God wants you to know that what you are going through is similar to what Mr. and Mrs. Job faced long ago.
What Mr. and Mrs. Job went through was not a punishment; it was a test of their faith. It was a divine refining of their faith, just as Job himself understood and therefore said:
“But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold” (Job 23:10).
It is important for you also to know that you are not being crushed, smashed, or destroyed. No, God never does such. You and your spouse are being tried; you are being refined to become better, because God always refines the righteous (Psalm 11:5a; Jeremiah 20:12a).

💕🤎🧡🪘YOU’RE LIKE A CHUNK OF SILVER ORE
Every redeemed child of God is comparable to a freshly mined chunk of silver ore. Zealous and spiritually active as he may be, the Refiner (God) is not satisfied with him yet. Why? Because there is still much dross and many impurities in him, even though he is already God’s child. What God does to remove the dross from us is similar to what human silversmiths do.

💕🤎🧡🪘LET’S LOOK AT THE SILVERSMITH
To remove the dross and impurities from a chunk of silver ore, the silversmith holds it firmly with his instrument and places it in the fire, at the point where the flames are hottest. The flames burn the silver ore thoroughly, and as they do, the impurities in the silver ore gradually fall away into the fire.
The silversmith continues to keep it in the fire until every bit of impurity is removed. He still holds it there until it becomes pure silver, shines brightly, and he can see the reflection of his face in it. Then he brings it out. It becomes a treasure and is placed where treasures are kept.

💕🤎🧡🪘GOD IS THE HEAVENLY SILVERSMITH
Like the human silversmith, God also uses flames to purify the redeemed. The flames are the trials, tribulations, and the many shades of unexplainable and seemingly mysterious troubles that beset us despite our prayers and unrelenting devotion to God. God allows those troubles; they are His refining fire.

💕🤎🧡🪘GOD WANTS TO SEE HIS FACE IN YOU
Like the human silversmith, His eyes are on you even while you are in the flames of trials. He will not leave you in the fire of trials for one second longer than necessary. He will bring you out at just the right moment — when He looks at you and can see the reflection of His face in you.
In other words, one of God’s purposes for our trials is to remove the impurities that keep us from reflecting His image and likeness. Remember, He created man in the beginning in His image and likeness. Therefore, one of God’s purposes in testing you is to recreate you into His image and likeness — the image of His Son, Jesus Christ.
Hear what the Scripture says:
“For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren” (Romans 8:29).

💕🤎🧡🪘GOD IS PREPARING YOU FOR THE WEALTHY PLACE
Just as the silversmith’s putting the silver ore through fiery flames is not meant to destroy it but to turn it into a treasure that will be highly esteemed, so also God’s allowing you to go through trials is intended to make you better, greater, and suitable to be ushered into a better place.
Hear what the Psalmist said:
“10 For thou, O God, hast proved us: thou hast tried us, as silver is tried.
11 Thou broughtest us into the net; thou laidst affliction upon our loins.
12 Thou hast caused men to ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water: but thou broughtest us out into a wealthy place” (Psalm 66:10–12).
Yes, the Heavenly Refiner tried them; He refined them as silver ore is refined in merciless flames. God brought them into the net. He laid afflictions upon their loins — a part of the anatomy where pain can be intense! He caused men to ride over them. Can you imagine the humiliation?
They went through fire; they went through water. Yet, all the while, God had a glorious purpose for everything He allowed them to endure, as we see in verse 12: He brought them into A WEALTHY PLACE!

💕🤎🧡🪘CONCLUSION
Mr. and Mrs. Job’s trials led them to a wealthy place: they became twice as rich as before and had ten new children.
Joseph’s trials led him to a wealthy place: he became the Prime Minister of Egypt.
So also will your own trials as a couple lead you to a wealthy place!
Do not let the pain, anguish, misery, distress, and seeming humiliation arising from your trials make you give up. Be courageous! The Refiner will not keep you one moment longer than necessary in the flames. Be patient to the end, and He will bring you into your own wealthy place!🪘

“Finally, the command to practice continual sexual intimacy in marriage, as demanded by 1 Corinthians 7:5, isn’t meant to make you worldly or carnal. It is given by divine wisdom to undergird and shield your spiritual life and pilgrimage (1 Corinthians 7:2; 1 Peter 2:11).”(Anselm Ahman. Lovebirds’ Devotional, May 1, 2026)

“Rumination—the constant replaying and dwelling on a spouse’s past transgression—is a major contributor to anxiety and depression. It traps individuals in loops of bitterness that prevent them from enjoying the present.”
