LOVING IN NEW AND UNUSUAL WAYS

Scripture:
‘AND ABOVE ALL THINGS HAVE FERVENT CHARITY AMONG YOURSELVES: FOR CHARITY SHALL COVER THE MULTITUDE OF SINS.’
(1 PETER 4:8)

🥐🍞🥞🥪🍔When Jesus removed His outer robe, tied a towel around Himself, poured water into a basin, and began washing the feet of His disciples (John 13:1–17), they were all in awe because it was the last thing any of them expected.

🥪None of them, in any way or for any reason, anticipated that the Master would go down on His knees and wash their feet. But by the time He finished, the impact of His action remained with them for the rest of their lives.

🥐🍞🥞🥪🍔DYNAMISM IN LOVE
For your marriage to always remain fresh and exciting, you and your partner must learn to express love to each other from time to time in new and most unusual ways.

🥚In her book, You Can Be the Wife of a Happy Husband, author Darien Cooper wrote: “Do not let it be said of your marriage that the ‘newness’ has worn off or that life has become dull and routine. You can give new life to your marriage by saying or doing the unexpected. For instance, after you greet your husband with a kiss when he comes home from work, whisper in his ear, ‘I’m in the mood for love; how about now?'”

🥐🍞🥞🥪🍔ARE YOU GETTING THE MESSAGE?
Dear spouses, are you getting the message?

🍕One of the reasons marriages become humdrum and boring is that spouses keep doing things in the same way from year to year, believing that “this is how it is done.”

🧆Jesus demonstrated love again and again in the most unusual ways, giving us an example to follow.

🥐🍞🥞🥪🍔THE GOOD SAMARITAN
The famed Good Samaritan did not show love only in the usual way or when it was convenient. No! Instead, he did the unexpected. He stopped his journey on a lonely and dangerous highway, unloaded his luggage, and used what he had to treat a dying man. He used his horse as an ambulance to evacuate the wounded man from a dangerous zone to another town, where he lodged him in a cosy inn. He postponed his journey and took care of the man. The next day, he paid the innkeeper to continue caring for the man and promised to return to settle any outstanding bill.

🥯These were things the religious folks—the Levite and the priest—who had passed by earlier could have done but did not because they were unwilling to do the unusual.

🥖Love is more impactful when it is unexpected, disarming, and amazing.

🥐🍞🥞🥪🍔THE ACT OF STUDENT G. D. NUMBERE
In the early 1980s, the late Apostle G. D. Numbere, the founder of Greater Evangelism World Crusade Church, testified at a major conference about his experience during a holiday in 1969, when he was a student at the University of Ibadan.

🧇In the house where he spent his holiday, he humbly and willingly did kitchen chores. However, the lady who lived in the boys’ quarters of the main house would eat her meals, leave her dirty plates outside her door, and go to town. He observed this recurring pattern and decided to do something about it.

🥐🍞🥞🥪🍔A DISARMING ACT OF LOVE
One particular day, he went to her door, picked up her dirty plates, brought them into the kitchen of the main house, washed them along with the other plates belonging to the household, and placed them neatly in front of the lady’s door.

🥨When the gorgeous lady returned and found the impeccably clean plates outside her door, she was shocked and wondered who could have done such an unusual thing. She rushed to the main house, humbly told the madam of the house about the surprise she had encountered outside her door, and asked whether she had any idea who had “done it.”

🫓The older woman smiled and gently told her that it was the university student who was on holiday.

🫘The lady exclaimed, “Ah, ah, ah! Who be me wey university student go wash plate for me?” She was stunned beyond words!

🥔Please note that at that time (1969), there were only five universities in Nigeria. In those days, you rarely encountered undergraduates, let alone a male undergraduate who was humble enough to do household chores!

🌭Two significant things happened as a result of the Christian virtue of love displayed by the student on holiday, who later founded one of the most doctrinally sound Pentecostal churches in Nigeria.

🍞First, the beautiful lady immediately stopped leaving her dirty plates outside her door. That was a reformation.

🥘Second, much later, the student on holiday politely asked her if he could have a word with her, to which she willingly agreed. All he wanted to do was preach the gospel to her, and she listened.

🥐The outcome? She willingly gave her life to Christ and became born again! This was regeneration.

🍳Thus, through an act of unusual love, a soul was reformed and regenerated. Think about it!

🥐🍞🥞🥪🍔DISARMING LOVE OPENS HEARTS AND LOCKED DOORS
Spouses, please go the extra mile. Do something new. Sit down individually and brainstorm for ideas that can move your marriage to the next level. Make offers to your spouse that will make their ears tingle—offers that sound too good to be true—and then follow through on your promises and fulfil them.

🧀Enough of selfishness and narrow-mindedness! Enough of walking the sickening path of cheating and foolishly exposing yourself and your mate to venereal diseases under the foolish belief that “everyone is doing it.”

🍗Sir/Ma, please listen: not everyone is doing it!

🥐🍞🥞🥪🍔CONCLUSION
It’s a new day, spouses! Resolve to make your marriage brand-new by performing acts of love for one another. These acts do not necessarily have to be big or major deeds.

🫓Loving each other is the real business of married couples. Creatively, imaginatively, and practically, love one another every day, and watch your relationship grow stronger and sweeter, to the glory of God and to your joy!   🥪🍔
