🧱🪟🖼️🏠🌹Yesterday, we took a look at some of the lessons we have learnt in the past because it is God’s will that we be put in remembrance of the things we have been taught.
🧱🪟🖼️🏠🌹OUR ANCHOR SCRIPTURE
Our anchor scripture for today says: “Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.” (Hebrews 2:1).
🌹You will be surprised at the large number of marriages that have failed for a very simple reason: a counsel, a scripture, or a vital warning was forgotten.
🧱I once heard the sad story of a billionaire who died of HIV/AIDS for one simple reason: the wife didn’t heed the advice given her by their mutual family friend. She probably had forgotten.
🪟Every word of scripture carries a saving grace within it. But it will only work when you remember that scripture and act on it at the right moment.
🖼️Even the sound counsel of your parents, siblings and other loved ones carry some blessings if you would obey them in your marriage.
🧱🪟🖼️🏠🌹GIVE GOD’S WORD UTMOST ATTENTION
Our anchor scripture tells us to “give the more earnest heed to what you have heard.” It’s saying: guard closely, keep jealously what you have been taught from the Holy Scriptures. Why? Because if you don’t, they might slip off your mind. And when you can’t remember them, you can’t obey them and you’re locked out of the blessings and protection that would have been yours through them.
🏠Today, we shall be looking at three more lessons that we have taught here in the past. Please, endeavour to read to the end.
🧱🪟🖼️🏠🌹(1) YOU ARE FEARFULLY AND WONDERFULLY MADE
One of our past teachings is that every one of us is God’s excellent creation, made by Him in His image and likeness. Consequently, we are each “fearfully and wonderfully made.”
🧱Thousands of years ago, King David, the Psalmist, realised this truth and boldly declared it in a song:
“I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.” (Psalm 139:14).
🪟Like the Psalmist, you need to also believe this scripture and declare it.
🖼️Why do you need to declare it? It’s because there are so many voices, both seen and unseen, that are whispering lies into your mind to make you feel negative about your body and your personality. Your duty is to shut down those voices. How? By a strong and unwavering belief in what God’s Word says about you and by confessing the same boldly.
🧱🪟🖼️🏠🌹DON’T SEEK MEN’S VALIDATION!
Only yesterday, I read what a lady wrote about herself. As an unsaved girl of 18, she had bought a two-piece bikini and wore it on the beach seeking to hear comments that would validate her sense of beauty. I’m doubtful if she got any.
🏠Beloved, if you depend on people’s comments and compliments to be assured that you are “good looking,” “hot,” or a “knockout,” you’re looking in the wrong direction. Psalm 139:14 confirms your great looks already.
🌹Of course, it is good for spouses to praise and admire each other. We believe in that and teach it. However, if your spouse isn’t yet good at showering you with praise and admiration, know assuredly that the scripture has already concluded about you: you are exceedingly beautiful/handsome.
🧱🪟🖼️🏠🌹A TESTIMONY
Some years ago, an emergency situation made me pick up my phone to invite one of my children in the Lord, whom I had not seen for over four years. She said she was coming.
🧱After a while, I sighted a team of about five persons approaching. I couldn’t recognise any of them. Well, since they hadn’t come close, I waited. But even when they drew closer, I still couldn’t recognise any of them—not even the lady who was in the front and leading them.
🪟I became uncomfortable as I couldn’t recognise them. And I didn’t want a situation where I would have to ask my convert, whose house I had been to several times for follow-up, who she was, as that would be very odd. It took me silent prayers and the grace of God to finally recognise the lady in front as my convert whom I had invited. She looked 120% different from the lady I led to Christ some years back. When I saw her this time, she wasn’t just beautiful. She looked regal, majestic and imperial. And I’m not exaggerating. You could just see the splendour. What happened? God had “buttered her bread,” “sugared her tea” and “wiped off her tears.” She had soared to a completely new altitude and everything changed.
🖼️Do you remember the story of Joseph? Why could the brothers not recognise him and so bowed to him? God had transformed him 1000% from the person they knew. If he were still in prison uniforms, they would have easily recognised him.
🏠Sir/Ma, every single person under the sun is exceptionally beautiful/handsome. In fact, the ones thought to be ugly are the ones that you’ll be most surprised at their transformation, once they are out of the “prison house” of the burdens, stress and challenges of this life.
🌹Sir/Ma, you are fearfully and wonderfully made. Believe it. Confess it. And walk in the confidence it gives.
🧱🪟🖼️🏠🌹(2) YOU ARE THE SAMARITAN!
Another thing God would have you reminded of is the fact that you’re the Samaritan with the oil and the wine divinely stationed in the life of your spouse.
🌹In the story told by the Lord Jesus in Luke 10, the priest and the Levite saw the dying man but passed by conveniently. But when the Samaritan beheld him, he had compassion on him. He felt a sense of duty. He postponed his journey and made the wounded and dying man’s recovery his new mission. And that’s exactly what spouses are in each other’s life for. You are in one another’s life to perform acts of heroic and chivalrous love.
🏠When your spouse fails, falters or falls down flat, you’re not there to feel disappointed, get offended and turn judgemental. You’re there to serve as the immediate agent of rescue. The Bible says:
“Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour.
🖼️For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow.” (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10a). So, you are in your marriage partner’s life as their lifter and restorer in the moment of fall (Galatians 6:1).
🪟You are together to bear one another’s burden. Put another way, you are together to help with one another’s duty. If your wife’s kitchen duties have become enormous and crushing, drop your phone and television remote and join her in the kitchen instead of sitting in the parlour and asking when supper will be ready. Join her and get the meal ready. It will be sweeter.
🖼️And if your husband isn’t meeting up financially in the home, help him, Madam. Bring money from your account and fill the gap. The Bible says:
“Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.” (Galatians 6:2).
🧱🪟🖼️🏠🌹(3) USE THE POWER OF GIFTS AND REWARDS
We have by the grace of God taught on the subtopic above in the past. Good marriages don’t drop out of the blues. They are built with secrets, most of which are in the pages of the Bible. Read this verse:
“A gift in secret pacifieth anger: and a reward in the bosom strong wrath.” (Proverbs 21:14).
🧱Gifts and rewards are instruments for building your marriage.
🪟When your mate is angry because of your foolish misbehaviour and you have asked and obtained their forgiveness, don’t stop there. Make the extra effort to get a good gift and give them. If possible, go on your knees when presenting it. It will cool their anger.
🖼️Rewards. You are aware that organisations give their best workers awards, right?
🏠In your marriage, you can encourage your spouse by giving them a reward from time to time as your personal appreciation for all they do in the family. Such gestures will surprise you as to what extent they will go in bringing you and your mate closer.
🧱🪟🖼️🏠🌹CONCLUSION
Use these three lessons in your marriage and your union will be sweeter, stronger and more harmonious than ever before.🧱🪟
