LOVEBIRDS' DEVOTIONAL

Enriching Matrimonies

PUT THEM IN REMEMBRANCE

Scripture:
‘If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ”‘
(1 TIMOTHY 4:6A)

🛡️🏞️🎙️🎼🩵The job of the biblical marriage teacher isn’t only to teach the Word of God on marriage from the pages of Scripture; it is also to put couples in remembrance of the things they have been taught in the past—things they might have forgotten or that they now neglect, trivialise, or despise, but which are critical to the sustenance, well-being, growth, and protection of their marriage. And that’s what we are going to do today. We shall look at some of the matrimonial truths that we have learnt in the past.

🛡️🏞️🎙️🎼🩵(1) “BREAK MORE BEDS”
We have taught in the past that, as a couple, you have the liberty to “break more beds.” I’ll explain.
🎼When, as a couple, your matrimonial bed has become shaky and squeaky, making funny sounds in the dead of night during your jolly moments, that shouldn’t make you decide to suspend your bedroom life.
🏞️I understand that the situation could be disturbing, considering the fact that sounds travel very far in the dead of night. And it would be uncomfortable to imagine your children and neighbours hearing the rhythmic squeaking sounds and guessing what must be happening in the inner sanctum of your matrimonial world.
🩵However, rashly deciding not to have sexual intimacy anymore until the bed is repaired or a new one is bought might be unwise and unstrategic. Such an unwise decision is exactly the kind of mistake the devil longs for you to make so that he can attack your union.
🎙️You also need to understand that the weak and wobbly state of your marriage bed is not in any way a bad development but a good one. Your bed’s deteriorated condition is a testament to how active you have both been at your duty post as married lovers. So, there’s no cause whatsoever to lament the weak state of your marriage bed or to blame yourselves for wearing the bed out in just a few years of marriage. It simply shows how healthy and energetic you both are, and that’s no small cause for joy.
🛡️Remember that when you visit the workshop of an experienced blacksmith, you will see several worn-out hammers in a pile. He doesn’t throw them away. Why? Because they are proof that he has been in the trade for a long time and has made many agricultural implements for farmers and weapons of war for warriors.
🏞️So, don’t be dismayed over your noisy bed. Get it to the carpenter as soon as possible. But if you can’t afford that for now, set the mattress on the floor. That’s a way of introducing newness to your marriage. You’ll be surprised that from the floor, your travels through the Stratosphere, Mesosphere, Thermosphere, Exosphere, and beyond might be faster and more glorious than ever.
🎼After all, when Jacob lay on the bare ground and made stones his pillow, he caught a great and unforgettable vision of heaven. So, sleeping together on the floor until there’s enough money to get your bed’s wooden frame repaired is never a demotion. You might catch new visions right from the floor level, just as Jacob did.

🛡️🏞️🎙️🎼🩵(2) YOU ARE PRIMARILY LOVERS AND SWEETHEARTS
Your first and most basic identity as a married couple is LOVERS. However, it’s an identity that your other identities might swallow up if you’re not careful.
🎼Marriage leads to the birth of your children, and gradually, your family becomes bigger, and that’s a blessing. However, you must, moment by moment, “pinch yourself” to remind yourself that you are not just a parent, an in-law, a host or hostess to the guests in your home, an entrepreneur, a minister of God, etc. You are also critically important to someone as their lover, sweetheart, heartthrob, and darling. They need you as much as the children do. Your negligence of their romantic and sexual well-being could have very grave repercussions that could even destroy the home, career, business, or any other thing that you are trying to build at the expense of your marriage.
🩵Always remember that you are fundamentally and primarily a lover in your marriage. As you take care of the family, don’t neglect taking care of your marriage and your spouse.

🛡️🏞️🎙️🎼🩵(3) YOUR WORDS MAKE YOUR MARRIAGE WORLD
One of the lessons we have taught in the past is the use of the tongue in marriage.
🎙️We have learnt that the first thing that happened in the first marriage was speech. When Adam set his eyes on Eve, the first thing he did was not to embrace, hug, or kiss her. The first thing he did was to speak pleasant words. He spoke words that made Eve feel welcomed, respected, recognised, loved, esteemed, and cherished. He said:
“This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.” (Genesis 2:23)
🛡️Just as Adam spoke pleasant words, so should we speak pleasantly to our spouses. Even when you feel wronged, still endeavour to compose yourself and not use destructive or vulgar words. Always remember that the Bible says:
“Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.” (Proverbs 16:24)
🎼Let your words to your spouse be sweet, medicinal, curative, constructive, and nourishing to their soul, spirit, and body. The Bible also says:
“Death and life are in the power of the tongue.” (Proverbs 18:21a)
🏞️Always remember that your words carry either death or life. You must, therefore, be very careful what you say to your spouse so that you don’t injure them.
🩵It’s never out of place to choose to be silent when you are not sure that your verbal response will be pleasant. Silence at such a time is both wise and golden.

🛡️🏞️🎙️🎼🩵CONCLUSION
Remember each of the things we have focused on today:
🛡️”Break More Beds”: If your matrimonial bed is broken down, don’t let that make you suspend sexual intimacy. Get it repaired. And if that will take a while, set your mattress on the floor temporarily and keep the love going.
🎼You and Your Spouse Are Primarily Lovers and Sweethearts: Daily function as such.
🩵Your Words Make Your Marriage World: Let your words be such as will minister grace to your partner and not words that will wound them.
🎙️Enthusiastically put your knowledge of these truths into practice in your marriage, and your profiting will be evident to all.
Happy New Month!🏞️🩵
