RECOVERY AFTER MARITAL FRACTURE

Scripture:
‘REJOICE NOT AGAINST ME, I MINE ENEMY: WHEN I FALL, I SHALL RISE; WHEN I SIT IN DARKNESS, THE LORD SHALL BE A LIGHT UNTO ME.’
(MICAH 7:8)

🛳️🚢⛴️⛵In yesterday’s devotional, we saw that one of the things the devil hunts for is the beauty of marriages. He seeks to deface them. We also saw that one of his chief ways of achieving this is through infidelity.

⛴️Now, when the devil has attacked, defaced, and humiliated a marriage, and the couple become the butt of jokes everywhere, what next? Should that be the end of the marriage? Not necessarily!

🛳️🚢⛴️⛵NO ONE WANTS SHAME
No one wants to fall into shame, disgrace, or ignominy, but it has unfortunately happened to several people. Thankfully, the ugly fall from grace to grass needn’t be the end of a couple’s marriage or love life together.

🛳️🚢⛴️⛵THE EXAMPLE OF BATHSHEBA
Bathsheba’s story is well known globally. If there was a woman who fell into shame, disgrace, and ignominy, it was Bathsheba, the wife of Uriah. If you think that she was spared public chastisement and ridicule because King David was involved in the saga, then you’re mistaken.

⛵Bathsheba must have had horribly dark years to contend with for yielding her body to another man while her husband was away on the battlefield. It must have been emotional hell for her: blame from her family and in-laws, friends who ostracised her, and the religious community that gave her the cold shoulder. The list is simply endless.

🛳️🚢⛴️⛵THE GOD FACTOR
But there’s something we must all know: she was a human being, created by God in His image and likeness. God owned her and didn’t want her to drown in the misfortune in which she unfortunately found herself. So, there’s always the God factor when we mistakenly walk on the banana peels of life and fall.

🛳️And that’s where our anchor Scripture comes in. It says:

“Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the Lord shall be a light unto me.” (Micah 7:8).

🚢This verse is plain. During falls, one of the first unfortunate and painful outcomes is that the enemies begin jubilating. Have you experienced that before?

⛴️Many times, you’ll not know who your enemies are until something negative happens to you. Now, let’s get back to our anchor Scripture.

🛳️🚢⛴️⛵THE PROPHET MICAH ATTITUDE
In our anchor verse, the prophet tells the enemy not to rejoice because his fall is only temporary, even though it is painful.

⛵When you fall as a couple, you must dust yourself up and put on the attitude of the prophet Micah, as we can see in the verse above. He refused to let the incident of his fall intimidate or silence him. He refused to let the flames of his optimism, faith, and confidence in God get blown out by what had happened.

🛳️This should be the attitude of married couples who love each other when shame visits their marriage because of the folly or transgression of one of them.

🛳️🚢⛴️⛵A DEEPER COVENANT
The marriage covenant is deeper and entails much more than most spouses know or imagine.

🚢In marriage, you and your marriage partner have become one flesh, and that brings you into a lot of responsibilities, including defending each other and lifting one another up. God’s Word says in Ecclesiastes:

“For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up.” (Ecclesiastes 4:10).

⛴️The first two-person team on earth is the married couple, and the first part of the Scripture above applies directly to them.

⛵When your spouse falls into sexual sin, it’s indeed crushing and devastating. Yet, through the tears of your pain, you must see what the first part of the verse above says and rise to rescue your mate from the ground of shame.

🛳️Naturally, this might seem hard to do because of the crushing feelings of betrayal and backstabbing you keenly feel as a result of their apparent treachery. Yet, if you’re a child of God, you’ll need to listen to the Spirit of God and His Word in the verse above and step out to rescue your mate from falling further.

🛳️🚢⛴️⛵THE LORD WILL ILLUMINATE
Let’s look at our anchor Scripture again:

“Rejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, the Lord shall be a light unto me.” (Micah 7:8).

⛴️The prophet audaciously declared to his enemy, “When I fall, I shall arise.” So, a fall is not the end. There shall be a rising up, and a lot of times, the rising up is so dazzlingly glorious that the light swallows the shame of the past fall completely, leaving no trace except the historical fact that it happened.

⛵The impacts are completely obliterated. That’s exactly what God did for Bathsheba.

🛳️🚢⛴️⛵BRAVELY FACE LIFE!
Bathsheba courageously braved life and continued in her new marriage to King David.

🛳️And just as our anchor Scripture says, the Lord was her Light in that dark and seemingly endless tunnel. She gave birth to Solomon, and the Lord specially sent the prophet Nathan to tell King David the special name He, the Lord, had for the new baby. The name was JEDIDIAH (2 Samuel 12:25). Jedidiah means “beloved of the Lord.”

🚢Jedidiah grew up and became the world-famous King Solomon, the richest man on the face of the earth in his time and the wisest of men in his era.

⛴️Tell me, what happened to the shame of Bathsheba? It was swallowed up forever, and her life was covered with exceeding great glory, so that wherever she went, men and women rose and did obeisance to her.

🛳️🚢⛴️⛵CONCLUSION: DON’T BE TOO CONCERNED ABOUT TODAY
In our devotional message of July 11, 2026, titled “Be Christlike in Your Marriage,” we shared the true-life story of a pastor whose wife was brazenly committing adultery with his neighbour but who, instead of fighting, chose to pray. Eventually, the wife became born again and began working with him in ministry.

🛳️Therefore, as spouses, remember that you’re in each other’s lives to team up and fight your common enemy, Satan, and to lift each other up in moments of fall.

🚢Now, hear this: the kindness of the innocent partner is never a licence for the weak spouse to keep sinning. God’s Word is very clear on the fact that He will judge adulterers.

⛴️So, when you take your mate’s forgiveness and love as a licence to continue in sin, be sure of this: you’re making yourself a target of God’s judgment (Hebrews 13:4b) and satanic retribution and vengeance (Ecclesiastes 10:8), just as was stated very clearly in yesterday’s devotional.🛳️🚢
