BECOMING “BIBLICAL SPOUSEHOLICS”

Scripture:
‘BE THOU RAVISHED ALWAYS WITH HER LOVE.’
(PROVERBS 5:19C)

🎞️🍂🤎The first duty of spouses upon getting married is to cleave to each other (Genesis 2:24b). What God demands of spouses by that command goes far deeper than casually living under the same roof, eating at the same table, and having hurried, superficial sexual intimacy that lasts five minutes twice a week.

The cleaving commanded in Genesis 2:24 calls for a deep and passionate commitment that is active, profound, and renewed every single morning.

🎞️🍂🤎RUTH’S UNUSUAL CLEAVING TO NAOMI
A good instance of the kind of cleaving God demands of spouses is the ardent, uncommon, and persistent attachment of Ruth the Moabitess to Naomi, which led her to say:

“16 Intreat me not to leave thee, or to return from following after thee: for whither thou goest, I will go; and where thou lodgest, I will lodge: thy people shall be my people, and thy God my God:

17 Where thou diest, will I die, and there will I be buried: the Lord do so to me, and more also, if ought but death part thee and me.” (Ruth 1:16-17).

🎞️🍂🤎CHOOSE TO CLEAVE TO YOUR SPOUSE DESPITE CHALLENGES
In marriage, spouses are called to love each other so deeply that it might seem to ignorant neighbors and onlookers like eccentricity, madness, or abnormality—just as we see in the godly, “spouseholic” woman in the Song of Solomon.

🎞️🍂🤎THE BIBLICAL SPOUSEHOLIC
In Song of Solomon chapter 3:1-4, we see a lady suddenly feeling the absence of her spouse. By then, it was already dark—very dark. The day was long gone, the night had fully enveloped the land, the entire city was fast asleep, and the watchmen were out on the streets patrolling their respective beats. Yet, she could not bear to be alone through the rest of the night without her beloved. It had nothing to do with the lust of the flesh, just as Ruth’s persistence to go with Naomi had nothing to do with greed or ulterior motives.

This lady simply wanted her man’s presence. And so, she dressed up, put on her shoes, and walked into the dark night to find him.

“What?” some would say to such a lady. “What kind of a woman are you, going out in search of a man at night? Are you out of your mind? Can’t you wait until tomorrow morning?”

Well, nothing was wrong with her. She was simply head over heels in love with her man and longed for his companionship. That was all!

After searching for some time, she found him and took hold of him.

The raw truth is this: in marriage, a blazing zeal for your mate, a fierce hunger for them, and a burning thirst for one another should be the hallmark of your union. You should be “spouseholics” who are joyfully committed to seeking the well-being and happiness of each other ceaselessly.

🎞️🍂🤎CLEAVING TO YOUR SPOUSE FROM AFAR
Your question at this point might be: “How can I cleave to my spouse often when we live thousands of miles apart because of our professions?” The answer is simple. But before we delve into it, it is good to know this: God doesn’t expect you to be physically together every time. He knows you have to work and attend to other responsibilities. Here is the secret of how to be together when you are far apart: through modern communication devices, especially your phone, and by using your MIND!

Your mind has eyes and ears. With the eyes of your mind, you can “see” your spouse through your thoughts and imagination. That is why it is said, “Out of sight is not out of mind.” When your physical eyes cannot behold your mate, your thoughts and imagination certainly can.

🎞️🍂🤎CONCLUSION
Finally, know this: God gave your mind the power to reminisce. To reminisce is to fondly recall or remember pleasant past experiences. So, when you and your spouse are apart, you can fondly connect with them by recalling the sweet times you have shared. Such thoughts water your love for each other and cause your affection to grow stronger (Philippians 4:8).🤎
