SIN AND YOUR MARRIAGE

Scripture:
‘RIGHTEOUSNESS EXALTETH A NATION: BUT SIN IS A REPROACH TO ANY PEOPLE’
(PROVERBS 14:34)

🖤💘❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹💔😭Today, God is leading us to look at another important subject: SIN AND YOUR MARRIAGE.

🖤💘❤️‍🩹💔😭BEWARE OF SIN
No matter how well matched, harmonious, and compatible you and your spouse may be, it is of utmost importance that you both constantly be wary of sin. Yes, beware of sin! Why? Because sin is Satan’s instrument for bringing reproach, shame, and odium to your marriage and for making you and your spouse a caricature and a laughing stock. Sin is Satan’s instrument for demoting spouses from the honour of marriage to the indignity of a broken or defaced union.

🖤💘❤️‍🩹💔😭EXAMPLE 1: THE FIRST COUPLE
The first couple, Mr. and Mrs. Adam, were blessed beyond measure. God blessed them with a home that has had no equal in all the annals of history. No King, Emperor, Head of State, or President of any realm had the kind of palatial and majestic home they enjoyed.
In fact, according to researchers, the Garden of Eden was as massive as three countries put together. It was a horticultural masterpiece of the most delightful excellence, having been planted by God Himself.
This couple, Mr. and Mrs. Adam, had a life of extraordinary splendour and extravagant grandeur. However, it was sustained by one thing: righteousness. They had to keep away from the sin of eating the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

🖤💘❤️‍🩹💔😭DISOBEDIENCE BIRTHS SIN AND REPROACH
Unfortunately, Adam and his wife Eve, one day became self-willed, disobeyed God, and ate the forbidden fruit. The consequences came tumbling down. They were beyond anything they could have anticipated. Their lives were in ruins as they lost their innocence, their right standing with God, and their bodily freedom. One of the most painful losses? They lost the glorious Garden of Eden with all its abundance and grandeur. They had to start life all over again—this time in the wide, wild world where there is stark suffering and pain.
Was their marriage affected by their sin? Evidently! They lost the freedom of their bodies. Their mindset about nakedness was so badly altered that they became uneasy, embarrassed, and ashamed to see each other’s nakedness. Very weird, isn’t it? This is why the first thing they did after the Fall was to make coverings of fig leaves.
“Eden” means Pleasure. So they lost the garden of Pleasure and moved into the opposite: the wide, wild world of uncertainty, hardship and misery.

🖤💘❤️‍🩹💔😭(2) EXAMPLE 2: DAVID’S MARRIAGES DOWNGRADED BY SIN
David’s marriages, family, and home were all healthy and peaceful. After he became king of all Israel, God gave him the wives of King Saul, increasing his bevy of delectable women. But once he committed adultery with Bathsheba, the wife of Uriah the Hittite, the peace that was upon his home and marriages immediately disappeared. Evil walked freely and boldly into the realm of his home, marriages, and family.

🖤💘❤️‍🩹💔😭EVEN THOUGH OFF RECORD
Even though the reactions of David’s wives to his adultery with Bathsheba and his subsequent marriage to her are not recorded in Scripture, our understanding of human nature easily informs us of what happened. Obviously, his wives were deeply disappointed with him. They must have been let down by how he could stoop so low as to take someone else’s wife while they were serving him and giving him all that he needed from them as women and wives.
As a result of his sin of adultery and bloodshed, discord and violence became part of his family for years. And do you think David enjoyed it all? No. Sin simply altered his marriages, and his family was no longer the same as before.
Can you imagine the mother of Tamar (who was raped by Amnon) relating with the mother of Amnon exactly as before? No. Or the mother of Adonijah (who was killed by Solomon) relating with Bathsheba exactly as before? No.
So sin made a caricature of the marriages and home of David. Everything changed, faded, and became a shadow of what they used to be.

🖤💘❤️‍🩹💔😭(3) EXAMPLE 3: KING UZZIAH SUDDENLY BECAME A LEPER AND COULD NO LONGER LIVE WITH HIS WIVES
Sin destroys marriages. The degree and extent vary. For Uzziah, it was one of the worst.
King Uzziah was a man who enjoyed God’s grace, favour, and generosity. He became king at the tender age of 16—yes, at an age when most of our children are still in secondary school. He reigned for 52 years, longer than King David reigned. During his reign, God greatly blessed and prospered him. He became rich and famous, and his name spread to foreign countries.
But read what the Scripture says:
“But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction: for he transgressed against the Lord his God, and went into the temple of the Lord to burn incense upon the altar of incense” (1 Chronicles 26:16).
I still wonder exactly what prompted King Uzziah to go into the temple of God to burn incense. Nothing called for it—just as nothing called for Adam and Eve eating the forbidden fruit.
For his transgression of entering the temple of God contrary to God’s law, God struck King Uzziah with one of the most dreaded diseases of ancient times: leprosy.
For the rest of his life, he remained a leper. Do wives sleep with a husband who has become leprous? No! So King Uzziah was permanently cut off from his beautiful wives even though he was still alive. It was extremely tragic, but the truth is that he brought the tragedy upon himself.

🖤💘❤️‍🩹💔😭MILLIONS OF MARRIAGES RUINED BY SIN
The marriages destroyed by sin number in the millions. Many people are languishing in prisons today and separated from their spouses because of sin. When you see prisoners, know that many of them are married. Their spouses are outside enduring sexual temptations, and those who cannot endure often compromise and go into adultery.

🖤💘❤️‍🩹💔😭CONCLUSION
Beware of sin. It can destroy your beautiful marriage and bring it to utter ruin. Follow the Lord in righteousness and holiness, and it will be well with your marriage.😭
