☕🌽🫒🫛Ever before creating the woman and instituting marriage, God declared her identity and responsibility: she would be a helper to the man in carrying out his life’s assignments or work(Genesis 2:18). This implies both direct and indirect participation in her husband’s business, profession, vocation, or ministry.
👒When we look at the Hebrew word for helper, which is Ezer (we have taught this a number of times, by God’s grace), it means: An Agent of Rescue, A Strong Helper, and A Strong Power. So, the woman is no insignificant personality in the life and work of her husband. She quietly rescues him many times without him even realising it. Her presence and prayers ward off malevolent women and other agents of evil.
☕🌽🫒🫛GOD GAVE THEM ONE NAME
After instituting marriage, blessing the couple, and commissioning them to rule, replenish, and subdue the earth, God gave the couple His formal name for them, and it was simply: ADAM (Genesis 5:2).
🧢That name signifies, among other things, absolute oneness and possessing all things in common. Why? Because by their presence in one another’s lives, they contribute to each other’s endeavours, advancement, and overall material success.
☕🌽🫒🫛WHAT THIS MEANS
What this means is that your spouse should be a full partaker of the income that comes from your profession, vocation, business, or ministry. Failure to observe this principle has caused countless marriages to derail.
🚂Are there scriptural references to guide us in this regard? Of course, there are. Please read:
“Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour, especially they who labour in the word and doctrine. For the scripture saith, Thou shalt not muzzle the ox that treadeth out the corn. And, The labourer is worthy of his reward.” (1 Timothy 5:17–18).
🍓The Apostle Paul, writing to Timothy, the bishop of the church in Ephesus, instructed him to ensure that the elders who laboured in ministering the Word of God were given financial remuneration or honorarium from the coffers of the church as appreciation for their spiritual toil in God’s vineyard, rather than being left to go empty-handed. They should partake of the blessings of the altar just as the pastor does, even if on a lesser scale. This is fairness.
🥑In another place, the Apostle Paul wrote:
“The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits.” (2 Timothy 2:6).
🍎Notice that he did not say “the owner of the field.” He was referring instead to the labourers who worked on the farm from planting time until harvest. As the fruits are gathered, they should be among the first to partake of them.
🍇Applied to marriage, these two verses imply that spouses should freely allow each other to partake of the fruits of one another’s labour because they contributed to that labour directly or indirectly.
☕🌽🫒🫛THE MAN AFTER GOD’S HEART
Even before becoming king, David established a law in Israel’s army whereby those who fought on the front lines and those who remained behind to guard the supplies would share equally in the spoils of war. Why? Because he regarded both groups as risking their lives for the defence and honour of Israel. Hear King David:
“For who will hearken unto you in this matter? But as his part is that goeth down to the battle, so shall his part be that tarrieth by the stuff: they shall part alike.” (1 Samuel 30:24).
🎑Isn’t this completely rational, perfectly reasonable, and transparently honest? No wonder God called him a man after His own heart.
☕🌽🫒🫛DOWN TO EARTH
The Lord Jesus declared authoritatively that husband and wife are no longer two, but one (Matthew 19:6a). Now, this oneness is not merely figurative or symbolic. It is real. It is a form of oneness whereby each contributes in several ways to the other’s life—their health, happiness, mood, and spiritual well-being from day to day.
🍉Whether you realise it or not, your spouse is being silently used by God to shape you in many ways, some of which you may never recognise until God opens your eyes to see and understand.
☕🌽🫒🫛SHARE TO BEEF UP AND BOOST THE JOY!
Whenever God gives you a major or landmark breakthrough in your business, profession, vocation, or ministry that brings a huge financial fortune into your bank account, please remember your spouse. Why? Because, whether you know it or not, your spouse’s input is embedded in the labour that has brought you that financial blessing.
🪵It could be their past prayers, their timely words of caution long forgotten, their encouragement during difficult moments that neither of you can now recall, or their unspoken, unheard, and unseen tears shed in earnest supplication for your career—tears they never considered important enough to tell you about.
🎩All in all, always remember that, as a couple, your lives are not merely intertwined but fully fused. Your spouse is contributing in some way to your life every day, including your career, even though you may not realise the finer details of that contribution.
☕🌽🫒🫛DON’T LET SELFISHNESS STEAL YOUR HUMANITY
Some men enjoyed their wives’ sacrificial backing and support through the lean years of hardship, when they could barely feed themselves. With their wives’ support, they went through TISEP, Grade II, and NCE programmes. Then, as God would have it, they nervously ventured into politics, contested an election, and surprisingly won.
🏆As media recognition, chieftaincy titles, and wealth poured in, such a man suddenly felt he needed to marry a younger or more beautiful wife to match his new status as an honourable member of the upper legislative chamber. He became determined to do so, even though his conscience repeatedly warned him that such an action would amount to spitting in the face of his faithful wife and disgracing the woman who had shown him nothing but genuine love when he was a nobody.
☕🌽🫒🫛CONCLUSION
The Bible says:
“Whoever rewards evil for good, evil will not depart from his house.” (Proverbs 17:13).
This scripture is very clear, and it applies to marriage as well.
😭Any spouse who chooses to reward their partner with heartbreak, embarrassment, sorrow, dishonour, and sleepless nights in return for the goodness and affection they have received will surely be visited by an evil that may remain permanently in their life. That evil could come in the form of a terminal illness, a tragedy of one kind or another, or some other grievous affliction. Therefore, we must all be careful.
🎖️When God blesses your labour, do not adopt a “winner takes all” attitude. Remember your spouse and surprise them with a worthwhile gift that will make them genuinely happy.
🛫🛬🗽🗼And if you can, fly them to Dubai or another exotic holiday destination and spoil them silly. They deserve that—and even more!☕🫒
